

Jean T. Conley, age 85, died peacefully at St. John Hospital and Medical Center in Detroit on Monday, September 1, 2014. Jean was born in Detroit on October 5, 1928 but was raised in Saginaw, MI. She was the daughter of the late Horace and Josephine Clarke. Jean Clarke and James Conley were both 1946 graduates of St. Mary Cathedral High School in Saginaw. On June 16, 1951, the high school sweethearts were married at St. Mary Cathedral. Jean was a school teacher in Saginaw, Ann Arbor and finally in Harper Woods where she created the Kindergarten program at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic School. She retired in 1991. Jean enjoyed reading, sewing, crafts, playing cards and her annual vacation to Florida. She loved being around her family and friends and was a social person. Her grandchildren would remember spending time with her at the cottage at Higgins Lake, outings to the Grosse Pointe Woods Lakefront Park, cooking and baking together and sharing their educational experiences. Jean was an active member of the former Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Harper Woods. Jean is survived by her husband of 63 years, James; their children, Marti Muss, Kay Casinelli (Mike), Tom (Joy), Mark (Barbara), Laura Roberts (Barry), Janie Neuenfeldt (Joe), Amy Loeffler (Craig), Anne Zurcher (Craig) and David (Pam); 29 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. The funeral for Jean T. Conley will be at 12pm (noon) Friday, September 5, 2014 at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road in Grosse Pointe Woods. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Thursday and from 10:30 a.m. until the funeral begins at 12 noon on Friday. The family has suggested memorials be made to The Capuchin Soup Kitchen, Attn: Development Office, 1820 Mt. Elliott Street; Detroit, MI 48207 .
