

Jeanette Therese Lutfy, age 82, died peacefully on July 29, 2013 at Beaumont Hospital-Grosse Pointe. She was born in Detroit on July 20, 1931, the daughter of George F. and Rasmia (nee Abid) Lutfy. She attended Southeastern High School until she had to leave school to care for her ailing mother. She continued her education by attending night classes at business school. She was employed as a accounts payable clerk at the J. L. Hudson Department Store in Detroit and also as a hairdresser. Therese was the glue that kept her family together. She enjoyed traveling which included trips to London, Hawaii and Spain; was a wonderful seamstress and was known for her Syrian cooking, particularly her tabouleh. She was a devout Catholic and was devoted to the Blessed Mother and the Infant of Prague. She was a member of Assumption Grotto Catholic Church, St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church and Our Lady of Redemption Melkite Catholic Church. Therese is survived by her siblings, Josephine Zainea and John Lutfy; and by many loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents George and Rasmia Lutfy, her brother Joseph Lutfy and sister, Mary Zainea. Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road in Grosse Pointe Woods. The Holy Rosary will be recited at 8:00 p.m. Wednesday. Her body will lie instate at Assumption Grotto Catholic Church, 13770 Gratiot Avenue in Detroit from 9:30 a.m. Thursday until mass begins at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Assumption Grotto Cemetery. The family has suggested mass contributions be made for the repose of her soul.
