Jeanne Catherine Zynda Chrisman, a longtime resident of Harper Woods, Michigan, passed away following a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer at the age of 74.
Jeanne was born on September 29, 1947 in Detroit, Michigan, to the late John R and Rose Mary (Hoff) Zynda. She graduated from Rosary High School Detroit and Barry University (Miami Florida), returning home to the Detroit area to begin her teaching career. Over the years, she touched the lives of countless students at Dominican High School, Grosse Pointe South, and numerous affiliated local high schools through her work as an educator and drama instructor. Jeanne’s passion for the theatre led her to Grosse Pointe Theatre in the early 1970’s. where she met her husband, Chuck. She transitioned from teaching to full time motherhood, raising her five children and eventually returning to work in the development office for the Adrian Dominican Sisters until her retirement in 2016. Jeanne was an incredibly gifted director and costumer and adored working in the theatre, especially alongside former students and her daughters. She had a fondness for Hallmark Channel movies, DIY shows, and lounging on the couch with her grand-dogs. Known for her compassion, dedication, and welcoming smile, she formed lasting bonds with many of the people she encountered, and was known as a kind, generous, and wonderful woman by everyone that knew her. She was a unique and amazing person, and she leaves a space that nothing will ever truly fill in the lives of those who loved her.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband, Chuck (2009), as well as her parents and parents-in-law. She is survived by her devoted children Cara, Leta, Dana (Bryan) Cochren, Anna, and Charles; her siblings Judy, Marilyn (Tom) Cushing, Mary (Jerry) Collins, Patricia (Joel) Slesak, John (Elizabeth), Thomas (Mary Ellen), Clare (John) Prendergast, and David (Anne); numerous cousins and extended family; her dog, Scruffy; and the many friends, co-workers, and students whose lives she changed.
There will be a Celebration of Life held later this year. In lieu of flowers, the family is gratefully accepting donations to assist with end of life expenses, with the remainder donated to her favorite charitable organizations, here.
