Joan was born with a heart full of kindness on February 14, 1947 and lived her life centered on faith, family, and love. While working at a doctor’s office, she met the love of her life, George Sahadi. The two were married on Sweetest Day, October 19, 1965, and went on to share 41 wonderful years together until George’s passing on June 6, 2006. Joan supported George in his long and dedicated career of over thirty years as Athletic Director and Head Football Coach at Bishop Gallagher High School, while she took on her most cherished role as housewife and mother raising their two sons, Paul and Anthony.
A devoted Catholic, Joan’s faith guided her every day. She was a member of The Helm in Grosse Pointe and also served her community as a Eucharistic Minister and Liturgical Speaker at several parishes, including Queen of Peace, St. Barnabas, St. Veronica, and St. Charles Borromeo.
Joan had a gift for making others feel loved. She worked as a Teacher’s Aide in the Grosse Pointe Public Schools and as a lunch aide at St. Joan of Arc School, where she made an impact on countless students. She found great joy in supporting her sons and grandchildren in their athletic pursuits, cheering them on from the sidelines with pride.
She adored her grandchildren and treasured every phone call and visit. Family was her greatest joy, whether shopping with her son Paul, sharing meals with her sister Linda and brother-in-law Pete, or traveling to favorite places like Chicago, Ann Arbor, Windsor, and Caseville. Joan especially enjoyed outings to Briarwood Mall, collecting purses, shoes, clothes, and her signature headbands. She also cherished simple pleasures like sitting in her backyard or going for walks.
As her eyesight and hearing declined in later years, Joan was lovingly cared for by her son Paul and daughter-in-law Karen, who ensured she remained surrounded by love, comfort, and dignity.
Joan’s legacy is one of faith, devotion, and unconditional love. She will be remembered for her unwavering prayers, her nurturing spirit, and the deep joy she found in her family.
She was the adored mother of Paul (Karen) and Anthony (Aliya); cherished Nana to Anthony, Samantha, Alex, Jacob, and Jazmine.
An instate for Joan will be held Friday, September 12, 2025 from 8:30 AM to 10:00 AM at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 21620 Greater Mack Ave, St Clair Shores, MI 48080, followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 AM.
