Joanne Mary Marshall

Joanne passed away on September 3, 2024 at the age of 90. Joanne was born in Detroit to Raymond and Viola (Kaiser) Marshall. Joanne graduated from St. Catherine’s High School and Marygrove College with a degree in elementary education. Joanne taught in the Detroit Public Schools until retirement. She also taught religious education at her brother, Rev. Raymond Marshall’s parish, as a volunteer. After retirement, she continued her passion for children by teaching at St. Peter the Apostle Montessori School in Harper Woods. She loved celebrating the holidays, birthdays and summer vacations on the St. Clair River with her family, especially with her “six little nieces”. She enjoyed traveling abroad, concerts, plays and retreats with her sister and best friend, “Sis” (Mary Rita). Joanne was very devoted to her Catholic faith and belonged to the Secular Franciscan Order for 70 years.

Joanne was preceded in death by her parents Raymond and Viola (Kaiser) Marshall, brothers Rev. Raymond and Donald, sister Mary Rita, sister-in-law Patricia, and niece’s husband Robert Lieder. She is survived by nieces, Mary Beth Lieder, Suanne (Kevin) Thompson, Katie (Paul) Janos, Carol (Ed) George, Nancy (John) Beadling, and Maureen (Ted) Buchel. Joanne was beloved by many great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Her family would like to thank the staff at Brookdale Farmington Hills North for their devoted care.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at 10 AM, instate at 9 AM, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 21620 Greater Mack Ave, St. Clair Shores, MI 48080, officiated by Monsignor Bugarin. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
