John Edward Matthews Jr.

John E. Matthews Jr. was born January 15, 1932. He was an active member of his community and church serving as the treasurer of Trinity Lutheran Church for well over a decade. He was also a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps. and a true patriot who loved his country. John entered into rest January 28, 2018 at the age of 86. An avid Tigers fan, John loved to watch the games both in person and on T.V. He also enjoyed playing ball with his nieces and nephews. Family was the most important thing to him; he adored his wife Edna and was an extremely devoted husband to her throughout their lives. He was a very private person, and a man of few words but that never stopped him from expressing his love for his family and friends. He had a soft spot for animals especially dogs. John also enjoyed traveling anywhere and everywhere he was able. John is predeceased by his beloved wife Edna. He leaves behind his nieces Cheryl (Don) Bartel and Linda Everson, as well as many other nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and friends. The family will be receiving friends and visitors Friday February 2, 2018 from 9:00am until the time of service 12pm at Trinity Lutheran Church, 8150 Chapp Ave., Warren MI 48089. A committal service will follow at White Chapel Cemetery in Troy.
