March 12, 1942 – May 5, 2026
Kathleen Marie Bova (nee McGinty) passed away peacefully on May 5th surrounded by her loving family. Kathy was born the third of five children to Donald Patrick and Clara McGinty (nee Wieferman) on March 12, 1942. Kathleen attended St. Matthew’s grade school and graduated from Dominican High School in 1960. She began her secretarial career working for the National Bank of Detroit. Kathy married her High School sweetheart Frank Henry Bova on January 25, 1964 and they remained devoted to each other for sixty-two years and forever.
Frank and Kathy raised five children on the East Side of Detroit beginning with Joseph Patrick (Brenda) Bova, Robert Anthony (Lee) Bova, David Michael (Gina) Bova, Laura Kristen (Mike) Borowski and Karen Anne (Chris) Cole. Kathy was Grandmother to sixteen including Denise Schoof (Butch), Kathy Bova, Jennifer Bova, Colleen Bova, Chloe Bova, Claire Bova, Cate Bova, Gabriella Bova, David Frank Bova, Nina Bova, Luke Borowski, Sophia Borowski, Eva Borowski, Noah Cole, Evan Cole and Adam Cole. They were all her favorites and she loved them to the moon and back! Kathy was also the Great-Grandmother to seven including Savannah, Jacob, Dylan, Cecelia, Joey, Jamison and Frankie.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents Donald Patrick and Clara McGinty, and her bothers Bob and Dennis McGinty. She is survived by her sister Eileen Shiemke, brother Donald Patick McGinty Jr., husband Frank and all of her children and grandchildren.
Kathleen retired from De La Salle Collegiate in 2007 after 26 years of devoted and loving service, where she made many dear life-long friends with faculty, co-workers, parents, students and alumni. She continued to meet with her former co-workers monthly for lunch until her death.
Above all else, Kathy loved and enjoyed each of her children & grandchildren dearly, whom she supported endlessly and unconditionally. Each of them were the pride and joy of her life.
Kathy and Frank enjoyed their retirement years together driving along the lakeshore, visiting their family and friends, going to Belle Isle, Port Huron or Metropolitan Beach or anywhere they could be together. Sometimes they would dance on the boardwalk at Metro Beach and Dad would sing to her. She also liked her Tim Horton’s and quiet drives alone along Lakeshore Drive. She was devoted to the local sports teams and watching the Lions, Tigers, Pistons, MSU and golf tournaments with Frank. She was an avid reader and devoted to her Catholic Faith.
Kathy will be remembered as the most kind and loving person you could ever meet and she will be dearly missed by all who loved her. We know that she is with God, along with all the Angels and Saints in heaven and her spirit will live on in our memories forever.
