Lucille Steinkampf entered eternity on August 9,2024. She was 91 years old. She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Harry as well as two children Randy (Pat) and Laurie (Doug) and four grandchildren Callie, Ryan (Kelsey), Nathan, and Elizabeth (Eamonn). Another grandchild, Christine, preceded her in glory in 2018. Lou (Grandma Lou, LouLou) was also blessed with five great-grandchildren, Sage, Lili, Addie, Ellie, and Eoin.
While her strong love of family was evident throughout her life, she was also an accomplished, self-taught artist working in various media to produce portraits, land/seascapes, custom needlepoint canvases and wall murals. Her faith led to teach Sunday School for a number of years at St. Paul Lutheran Church as part of the young children’s ministry. As her children grew more independent, she stepped into the business world as partner in Sign of the Crane Antiques specializing in Asian antiquities and vintage clothing. Her sense of color, design, and presentation were a distinctive hallmark of the business. Testifying further to her love of family, no one can count the Little League games, recitals, and concerts she sat through, first with her children and then all the other sports events etc. she attended for her grandchildren, sometimes in rain, snow, and sleet. It would be wrong not to mention the amazing Christmas Morning brunches she created. There were even birthday candles for Baby Jesus and a rousing (sort of) chorus of Happy Birthday Jesus.
While recent times were tough for her, the sparkle in her blue eyes and her trademark smile lasted to the end. For now we cling to our memories but someday we will meet again and maybe…just maybe get another piece of that Christmas Quiche.
A visitation for Lucille will be held Wednesday, August 21, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave, Grosse Pointe Woods, MI 48236, followed by a memorial service at 12:00 PM.
