Margaret Jean McCarthy

Margaret Jean Izant McCarthy passed away on October 21, 2017 at the age of 99. She was born on August 4, 1918 in Warren, Ohio; daughter of James R. and Marguerite (nee Wilhelm) Izant. Margaret graduated from Dennison University in 1941. She was a member of the Alpha Phi Sorority. Margaret was a devoted employee of Standard Federal Savings serving as an Assistant Branch Manager; working until she was 75. She was a longtime resident of Grosse Pointe Woods and one of the earliest members of St. Michaels Episcopal Church in Grosse Pointe Woods. Mrs. McCarthy loved to travel and enjoyed going on cruises. She has traveled all over the world; enjoying her trips to Egypt, Europe, Hawaii, and the Caribbean. She was always asking questions as to know what was going on. She was an independent woman, driving into her 90s. She never said a bad word about anyone and will be missed by everyone that knew her. She leaves behind her loving daughter Susan J. (Stanley) Kwolek, and loving son Robert (Karen) McCarthy. She was proud of her grandchildren Kathryn Kwolek, Alexa Hagen (Michael), Michelle McCarthy, and Erin McCarthy. She adored her great-grandchildren Ana, Jonathan, Arielle, Robert, and Sky. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 3:00 until 9:00 pm at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave., at Vernier Rd., Grosse Pointe Woods. Mrs. McCarthys funeral will be celebrated on Friday at 11:00 am at St. Michaels Episcopal Church, 20475 Sunningdale, Grosse Pointe Woods.
