

Maria Rosa Alvarez was born in Barcelona, Spain, on November 25, 1926. She met her husband, Dr. Julian B. Alvarez, while he was attending medical school in Barcelona. After living in Puerto Rico and France, they moved to Detroit, eventually settling in Grosse Pointe City in 1962 where they lived for many years. During their retirement years, they resided in St. Clair Shores. Mrs. Alvarez is survived by her brother Antonio, her children, Dr. Julian A. Alvarez (Catherine) & Carmen Stewart (Dr. James) and her five grandchildren, James, Nicole, Alex, Eric and Cristina. Maria Rosa was a talented artist who donated several of her paintings to fundraisers in the community. She was an exceptional seamstress and a gourmet cook who loved to entertain for her family and friends. Her culinary expertise included an array of Spanish dishes. She enjoyed attending the theatre and the symphony. Through the years she was involved in volunteering for various community events including her church and Casa Maria family services in Detroit. Maria Rosa was a world traveler who was fluent in several languages. She was proud of her beloved country Spain, and visited her relatives often. Maria Rosa had a great sense of humor and lived life to its fullest and will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her. Que en paz descanse.
