Matthew Ronald Maher

Matthew Maher passed away on November 13, 2017 at the age of 23. He was born on September 21, 1994 in Detroit; son of Patrick and Mary (nee Healy) Maher. Matthew recently graduated from Michigan State with a bachelors degree and was pursuing his masters degree in criminal justice. Matt fiercely loved and protected his family and friends and was always there to lend a helping hand. A natural leader, he inspired others. Matt was quick-witted, and his laughter and warm smile lit up the room. He was a faithful Sparty and huge Lions fan, always engaging the crowd in cheers. He leaves behind his loving parents Patrick and Mary; and sister Colleen. He is survived by his grandmothers Elizabeth Maher and Dorothy Healy; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 24th from 2:00 pm until 9:00 pm at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave., at Vernier Rd., Grosse Pointe Woods. A prayer service will be held on Friday at 7:00 pm. Matthew will lie instate on Saturday, November 25th at 9:00 am until the time of the Mass of the Resurrection at 10:00 am at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 467 Fairford, Grosse Pointe Woods. Monsignor Gary Smetanka will officiate. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Capuchins, 1820 Mt. Elliott, Detroit, MI 48207.
