

Paul L. Marti passed away on September 11, 2012 at St. John Hospital in Detroit at the age of 87. He was born on October 4, 1924 in Toledo, Ohio; son of Louis Casper and Frances (nee Pahl) Marti. Mr. Marti was proud to have served in the United States Army during World War II as a Radio Operator attaining the rank of Sergeant. He stormed the beach at Normandy and received the Purple Heart after sustaining injuries during the Battle of the Bulge. During "R and R" Paul was introduced to May Parker by a friend at a social event stateside. By the end of the night Paul asked May to be his bride. Five months later on April 15, 1944 the couple was married at Annunciation Church in Detroit. Mr. Marti was the original owner of the family residence on Marter Rd. in St. Clair Shores, purchasing the newly built home in 1956. He was the owner and on the board of directors of his insurance agency, PL Marti Insurance Agency and on the Board of Directors for American Community. His office operated in St. Clair Shores since the mid 1970's. Paul "officialy" retired in 2005. Paul was a true gentleman, known for his generosity and great sense of humor. He was a talented artist excelling in the fields of oil and acrylic painting. He wrote poetry and was always have a poem written for special occasions like a birthday. Paul and May started a tradition since the mid 1970's. They organized and financed the "Marti Family Vacation" which would have the whole family spending time up north, mostly in the Harbor Springs area. This tradition will continue on in memory of Paul. He leaves behind his wife of 68 years, May. He was proud of his children Jo Anne (Jack) Harris, Paul (Betsy), Fran (Tony) Julian, Michele (Bill) Miros, and Annette (Dave) Cataldi. He adored his thirteen grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 13 from 3:00 until 9:00 pm at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave., at Vernier Rd., Grosse Pointe Woods. A scripture service will be at 7:00 pm. Mr. Marti will lie instate on Friday from 9:30 am until the time of the Mass of the Resurrection at St. Lucy Catholic Church, 23401 East Jefferson, St. Clair Shores. Father Jim Commyn will officiate. The funeral will conclude with military honors. Burial will be held privately at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Twp. Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Marti's name to the Capuchin Monastery, 1820 Mt. Elliott, Detroit, MI 48204.
