Richard and I were the best of friends during our school years, about 1937 at Arthur School thru 1949 when we graduated together from Dengy High school. I lived on Everts street, between McKinney and King Richard during our school days. I was sorry to read of Dick's passing when I was searching for old High School friend in "gooble."

My hearfelt thoughts and deepest sympathy go out to his family. Ever since I was a little boy, I have always looked up to Uncle Dick not only as a man of respect, honor, and authority but, most memorably, as a man of good humor, too. As days go by, I find myself remembering the charming stories he told to me, especially the ones of my mother growing up and his adventures on the police force. These stories are alive and I shall always treasure them. Born of a mold that isn't made anymore, to a young man, he forever stands tall as a towering role model. I salute you. Dan

My prayers and thoughts are with Richard's family. Richard was a friend and mentor to many command officers in the Detroit Police Dept. As the chief of staff for Police Chief Ike McKinnon, Richard provided me with wise counsel. God Bless You, Deputy Chief, Dave Simmons (Ret.)
