

Richard Ray Hughes Sr., age 75 of Warren, passed away November 7, 2017. He was born in Detroit on June 6, 1942; the son of Merril and Dorothy (nee Wilson) Hughes. Following high school, Richard joined the United States Air Force and honorably served his country from August 7, 1959 until August 4, 1967. Ultimately, he was a Staff Sergeant working as an Airplane Mechanic. Richards passion for fixing things carried over into his career in Machine Repair at General Motors for 22 years. He also enjoyed tinkering around with various things that needed building or fixing around the house. He could be a perfectionist and always needed something to do with his hands. Richard also liked NASCAR and watching or attending car shows. Richard will be remembered as a quiet, simple man with appreciation for a job well done. He is dearly loved and will be deeply missed. Loving father of Tammi Reilly, Michael (with Kim Smith) Hughes, Richard Jr. (Kimberlein) Hughes and Jayne (Kenneth) Bennett. Treasured grandfather of Jason (Autumn) Smith, Brandi Smith, Bryan (Leah) Reilly, Shawna Reilly, Michael W. Hughes, Rich Hughes, Rachel Hughes, Julie Wolfe and Sean Wolfe. Adoring great-grandfather of Maxwell, Marley, Gabriel, Elijah and Nathaneal. Dear brother of Shirley Garling and Ken Hughes. Cherished former wife and best friend of Jane Hughes for over 60 years. He adored his dog, Jack and is also survived by several caring nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. A memorial gathering in Richards honor will be announced in the near future.
