Robert “Rob” George Bennett, 64, of Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2025. Born on August 7, 1961, in Detroit to George and Ruth Bennett, Rob lived a life centered on love, laughter, and loyalty, to his family, his friends, and his beloved hometown teams.
As a proud graduate of the University of Detroit Mercy, Rob built a meaningful career and an even more meaningful life through the connections he made along the way. He met the love of his life, Maureen, in 1981 while both were working at Bon Secours Hospital. They married in 1987, sharing nearly four decades of partnership filled with laughter, devotion, and adventure. Together they built a beautiful life, first in Madison Heights, and then later in Grosse Pointe Woods, where they raised their three children: Jimmy, Kevin, and Delaney, who were the center of Rob’s world.
Rob was the kind of dad who never missed a game, a race, or a chance to cheer his kids on. Whether he was coaching T-ball, soccer, or basketball, or standing at the finish line of Delaney’s cross-country meets with an armful of Gatorade (enough for the whole team), Rob showed up every time. His encouragement, humor, and steady presence made him his family’s greatest, and best cheerleader. He was equally proud to support Maureen as she returned to school to earn her bachelor’s degree, always putting his family first.
After work, Rob’s routine said everything about who he was: shoes off, coat hung up, and straight to his kids. No matter what kind of day he’d had, home was his happy place.
Rob had a knack for finding humor in everyday life and a deep appreciation for the simple joys: a round of golf, a good bowling game, or a night cheering on the Red Wings or Lions. His love for Detroit sports ran deep, and working for the Ilitch Sports Teams was a special point of pride. In his later years, Rob worked for Ciena Health, and overtime would begin to look at his colleagues there as a second family. He was also a lifelong fan of Batman, Marvel, and DC, and he fulfilled many comic book lover’s dreams by attending San Diego Comic-Con in 2019.
While he’d never call himself an animal lover, Rob’s soft heart always won out; especially when he discovered an abandoned puppy from his favorite golf course, and returned home with a new furry friend.
And though he cherished many roles in life, becoming “Pop Pop” to his granddaughter, Lyra was his most treasured. Rob and Lyra shared a special bond; from their trips to Whistle Stop for a new toy to the times she’d get him to change the TV from Detroit sports to whatever she wanted.
He will be remembered for his big heart, his quick wit, and his ability to make everyone around him feel valued. Rob’s legacy lives on in the family he adored and the many lives he touched.
Rob is survived by his beloved wife Maureen Bennett; adored children, Jimmy (Charlotte) Bennett, Kevin Bennett, and Delaney Bennett; cherished granddaughter, Lyra; loving siblings, Jim (Wafaa) Bennett, Terry (the late Vic) Jarosz, the late Geralyn Bennett, and the late Diane Bennett; and countless family and friends who were fortunate to know his kindness, humor, and unwavering love.
A visitation will be held at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, located at 20705 Mack Ave, Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan, 48236, on November 11, 2025, starting at 4:00 PM followed by a Celebration of Life to begin at 7:00 PM
