Excerpts of eulogy: Dear Dad, You have always been here for all of us, and now youre gone. Our hearts and minds are struggling to wrap around the reality of your passing. We are consoled in the knowledge that you are at peace and in a much better place, but we will miss you terribly. Dad, when we think about our life, as we were children, we remember how hard you worked for all of us. Sometimes you held down 2 or 3 jobs to provide a home, food, and clothing for a wife and 6 children. As kids we may not have appreciated all you did for us, but as adults we realize the sacrifices you made for your family. It was one of the ways you showed us how much you loved us. It was also a model of personal responsibility that we have all taken into adulthood. Thank you for that. We remember the good times we shared as a family: vacations to grandparents, where the six of us were stacked up like cordwood in the backseat; rustic camping in the middle of nowhere in Northern Michigan. We would have preferred a few more amenities; parties in our backyard with uncles, aunts, cousins and friends; as adults, playing cards in the kitchen, where you taught us the subtleties of cheating at Uno. And more recently, camping with you at Algonac State Park, with much better accommodations, watching the boats going down the river; and watching the family grow with addition of new members to the Russell clan. We also shared with you the times that try our souls: hard times financially; the passing of loved ones; health issues; and your long struggle with the disease that finally took you from us. So, Dad, please know that although we will always miss you, we will be all right, because it was from you that we learned strength through adversity. And Mom will be all right too. We will look after her as much as she will let us. We love you with all our hearts, now and always. Your children, Shirley, Elizabeth, Harry, Theresa, and Tina P.S. Tell Joe, we didnt forget him. We know hes right there with you.

We are so grateful for the 85 precious years that God gave us with you. Our hearts are broken, our eyes are filled with tears but tears are for ourselves not for you. We know you are in a better place filled only with joy. Reunited with our beloved Joe, Mitchell and all the other members of the Russell clan that greeted you on your arrival home. You will never be gone from our hearts. We will always be grateful that we were lucky enough to call you "Dad". We promise to take care of Mom until the day you are reunited with your beloved Mae, two hearts united in love till the end of time. We love you Dad.

We just lost the best neighbor and friend that any one could ever ask for. In fact he was more then just a friend he was like our dad.We have 33 years of good memories that will never be forgotten. Shirley you were the best at growing tomatoes and every time we put in our garden we will always remember your good advice. But now Shirley you can rest in peace without having no more pain. May God wrap his arms around you all and comfort you. Loosing a loved one causes much sadness, may it comfort you to know that love, prayers and thoughts are being sent your way.

The world lost a good person, you will be missed. We were blessed to have had you as a father. You will never be forgotten.
