It is with deep love and profound heartbreak that I share the passing of my father, Steven Omer Ameye, who left us on November 18, 2025. Born in Detroit, MI on November 27, 1968, Steve was the youngest of five brothers and the cherished son of the late Andre and Mary Aline Ameye.
Steve grew up in Detroit and attended both public and Catholic schools before studying at Bishop Gallagher High School and graduating from L’Anse Creuse High School in 1987. Even as a teenager, he carried the strength, loyalty, and generosity that would define the rest of his life.
He proudly served the City of Detroit, retiring as a captain with the Detroit Fire Department after over 30 years of dedicated service. He met every call with courage and integrity, and the impact he had on his fellow firefighters and the community will live on for years to come.
Outside of the firehouse, Steve lived with a huge spirit for adventure. Together we skydived, snowboarded, and spent countless days boating and racing across the water on jet skis. He loved motorcycles, dirt bikes, and snowmobiles - always ready to chase the next trail or create the next memory. Being outdoors, moving fast, and sharing experiences with the people he loved was simply who he was.
Steve’s heart was just as full as his spirit. He loved hosting friends and family at his cabin in Greenbush, MI, filling every gathering with laughter, stories, and good food. His love for family stretched far, including traveling to Belgium to visit our cousins and stay close to his heritage. Everywhere he went, he built connection, friendship, and joy.
As his only child, I was blessed with not just a devoted father, but a constant companion - someone who taught me courage, strength, joy, and how to live fully. Being his daughter shaped every part of who I am.
Steve is survived by his daughter, Shelby Ryan Ameye; his brothers Paul (Michelle), Bart (Dr. Aileen Hernandez), Kris (Laureen), and Gary (DeAnna) Ameye.
He is also lovingly remembered by his nieces and nephews: Max (Alyssa), Michael (Brandi), Jacob (Kenzie), Joshua, Benjamin, Lucas, Autumn (Gavin McPherson), River, Andre, Emeliano, and Angeleah (Ethan Bruning).
Steve leaves behind a legacy of brave service, wholehearted love, and a lifetime of unforgettable memories. His absence is immeasurable, but the gift of being his daughter will forever be the greatest blessing of my life. May we one day be reunited by our hope, our prayers, and our faith in the Divine Mercy of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
