Patricia Ann (Athey) Schleucher, known as Patty to family and friends, passed away at the age of 80 on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, her daughter Debbie and son-in-law David by her side as she took her last breath in this life. She was preceded in death 5 weeks prior by her beloved husband of 44 years, Glenn.
Patty was born October 16, 1944, in Grove City, Ohio to the late William “Russell” and Betty Jane (Ward) Athey. Russell was a farmer, and Patty grew up helping in the fields, driving tractors, going to square dances, church functions and all that the small Grove City farming community was at that time. She graduated from Pleasant View High School in 1962, involved in many clubs, most notably receiving a trophy as Outstanding Player for the Girls Basketball Team. Patty would keep that feisty spirit that got her that trophy her entire life.
For many years Patty was a devoted stay at home mom, making costumes for school plays, growing and canning food, being “the fun house” where all the kids went and everyone was welcome to stay for a home cooked meal. In later years she worked for American Electric Power, retiring after 20 years with the company.
In September of 1980 Patty married the love of her life, Glenn, beginning a new phase of her life, filled with travel and adventure. If they dreamed it together, then they went there. Patty and Glenn traveled the world, and they had such a love for cruising. Patty kept a list of over 200 places they visited, from Alaska, to London, to Ireland, The Caribbean, to Italy and Spain and so many places in the United States, collecting stories, making memories and sharing so much laughter.
With the birth of her granddaughter Amber in 1993 Patty would experience one the purest joys of her life: being a grandma to Amber. Patty would often say, “being a mom is great, but being a grandma is really great.” Patty played an important and pivotal role in Amber’s life, helping to raise her and forming a deeply special bond, showering her with love, her wisdom and of course fun. Patty was a truly amazing grandma, and this meant the world to her.
Family and friends were everything to Patty, she had long and strong bonds with those she loved; friendships that spanned over 40 years, neighbors who were like family, family she would visit in California every year or meet in Arizona, or Washington DC, Patty was always up for a trip or visit with family and the friends she loved.
She will be dearly missed by all who knew her; family and friends, her daughters Debbie and Trish, her “David-son”, her cherished granddaughter Amber, all will miss her more than words can say, their lives changed forever by her life and her death. If you were loved by Patty, you truly knew what it meant to be loved.
A joint memorial service celebrating the lives of both Patty and Glenn will be held Saturday September 20th, 2025, starting at 1pm. Family will greet guests during a reception directly following the service until 4pm.
Service and reception to be held at Schoedinger Grove City, 4242 Hoover Road, Grove City, Ohio 43123
