

To every beginning, there is an end. On January 6, 2022, Our Hero, Stephen F. James, Sr., "Chief", went home with the Lord. He was born July 14, 1933 in Napoleonville, Louisiana to the late Paul and Ethel (Joseph) James. Stephen was retired from Anderson Concrete. He was a longtime member of St. Aloysius Parish where he ushered for many years. He enjoyed attending sporting events and riding motorcycles. He was an avid bowler and loved the outdoors. Member of the YMCA of Urbancrest. Stephen was also mechanically inclined. He loved people and was a friend to all. He loved "sweets" (desserts). He was a gentle giant with the most loving soul. He was a HERO to so many and will be dearly missed.
Preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Olivia James, his brother Anthony, sisters Elizabeth, Delores, and Mary James.
Stephen is survived by his sisters, Ruth Robbins, and Theresa Davis, and his brother, Ernest P. (Shirley) James; daughter, Cherlyn Bowman; sons, Stephen James, Jr. and Ernest L. James; grandchildren, Nathan Bowman II, Ernest R. (Lauren) James, Jennifer (Michael) Reber; Jeffrey (Kathleen) James, Derick (Ashley) James, and Ashley B. James; great-grandchildren, Olivia, Elijah, Preston, Reagan, Brennan, Jace, Jax, Isaac, Eva, Thomas, Blaise, Emily and many other nieces, nephews, extended family, and wonderful friends.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm on Thursday, January 13, 2022 at SCHOEDINGER GROVE CITY, 3920 Broadway, Grove City. Mass of Christian burial will be 10 am on Friday at St. Aloysius Church, 2165 W. Broad St., Columbus, OH 43223, Fr. Pat Toner Celebrant. Masks are required to be in attendance for both visitation and the Mass of Christian burial. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Aloysius Church.
Special thanks to Cherlyn Bowman (daughter) for her dedication and devotion during his final chapter of life. In addition, his family would like to thank the nurses and staff at ProMedica SNF Dublin, as well as the Hospice nurses, for their attentive and compassionate care.
