

John Joseph Barry, 91, of McKinney, Texas and former resident of Port Arthur passed away on Monday, August 8, 2011 at Baybrooke Village Rehabilitation Center in McKinney, Texas. He was born July 29, 1920 to Ida White Barry and Francis M. Barry in West Newton, Massachusetts. John lived in Port Arthur for 63 years and moved to McKinney four months ago to be near his daughter, shortly after his beloved wife passed away. He was a devoted husband and cared for Betty Joe during her entire battle with Alzheimers. They were married for 66 years and were truly soul mates.
He served in the CCC’s (Civilian Conservation Corps) during the depression. He helped build roads and maintain National Parks in the Berkshires in Massachusetts. John was a decorated Navy veteran, served on LCI 66 and 807 and was involved in five invasions in the South Pacific during WWII. He retired as a draftsman in the process engineering department at Gulf Oil Refinery after 35 1/2 years.
Visitation will be on Thursday, August 11, 2011 from 5 PM to 8 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM Friday, August 12, 2011 in the Thompson Memorial Chapel at Clayton Thompson. Burial with Military Funeral Honors will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Betty Joe Barry and his son, John J. “Joey” Barry, Jr and two sisters, Margaret Snow and Betty Adams.
He is survived by his daughter, Conny Klausner and husband Cary of McKinney, Texas, his grandson, Clint Salisbury of Houston, Texas along with his sister, Barbara Kelly of Marlborough, MA., several nieces and nephews.
