

Funeral services for Larry J. McGuire 73 of Palestine will be held 7:00 PM Thursday at First United Methodist Church Palestine with Rev. Bruce Hay officiating. Burial will be 11:00 AM Friday in Greenlawn Cemetery in Port Arthur, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster Palestine.
Larry J. McGuire passed away Monday at the David E. Foster Hospice Unit/PRMC. He was born December 3, 1938 in Port Arthur, TX. to Everett R. McGuire and Cecile Lura Mansker McGuire. He graduated from Port Neches High School in 1957 and enjoyed his graduation present of a 1957 Chevy, which he drove until the wheels fell off! He began his career in the grocery business for Les Speir as a bag boy and worked his way up the ladder eventually became Manager and store supervisor for Speir’s Discount Foods in Groves, TX. He retired from Speir’s after 28 years of service. Larry moved to Palestine, TX in 1983 and began a new career working for the Texas Dept. of Criminal Justice Michael Unit in Tennessee Colony, TX as a food service manager, retiring after 15 years service. Not wanting to be idle, he worked during his retirement years as a carrier for the Dallas Morning News, delivering Meals on Wheels for the Palestine Senior Citizens Center and a salesman for Rick Hardy Auto. In his younger years he played golf. In his retirement years he loved fishing. He enjoyed his children and loved getting the family together for holidays and weekends. His 12 grandchildren were the absolute love of his life. While in Groves, TX he was a member of Kiwanas Glub, is a member of First Methodist Church and the CIA Sunday School class.
Mr. McGuire is survived by the love of his life, Barbara Fenn McGuire. He is also survived by daughters, Lynn Wolford and husband Kurt, of Mauriceville, TX., LeeAnn Kuzenka and husband Johnny, of Evant, TX., sons Troy McGuire and wife Jennifer, Kipper McGuire and wife Beckey all of Palestine. Grandchildren include grandsons, Drew Prescott and wife Adrienne of Tacoma, WA., Seth and Kevin Wolford, of Mauriceville, TX., Cody Manning of Gatesville, TX., Taylor Westbrook and wife Josie of Cleburne, TX., Kevin Couch and Mitchell McGuire, granddaughters, Lexy and Brynna McGuire, Leslie Anderson all of Palestine, Teagan and Spring McGuire of Corsicana, TX., Kaylee Kuzenka of Evant, TX., Brittaney Bushey and husband Jacob, and great granddaughter Cassidy Marie Westbrook of Cleburne, brother Bobby D. McGuire and sister Peggy Morgan both of Groves, TX. He will be greatly missed by his faithful schnauzers Pepper and Buddy.
Pallbearers will be Rodney Morgan, Wesley McGuire, Dean Morgan, Drew Prescott, Kevin Wolford, Seth Wolford, Cody Manning, Taylor Westbrook, Mitchell McGuire and Kevin Couch. Honorary pallbearers will be associates of Ricky Hardy Auto Sales; Rick Hardy, Rocky Lane, Jaquin Pearce, Linda Coleman, Eddie Curlin, James Kelley, Leroy Lusk, Bill Roddy, Don Stanaland and Juan Castillo.
Condolence calls will be received from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday at First United Methodist Church.
