

Leroy James Arceneaux was born on January 1, 1919 in Port Arthur, Texas to Arno Arceneaux and Geneva Christian Arceneaux. He was a graduate of Abraham Lincoln High School in Port Arthur, Texas and received his Bachelor of Science from Wiley College in Marshall, Texas. Mr. Arceneaux also completed post graduate studies at the University of Minnesota. He married his beloved wife Willie Mae Ladd in 1952.
Mr. Arceneaux was an employee of the Port Arthur Independent School District for over 30 years. Much more than that, he was a teacher, sports coach, and youth mentor who deeply cared about his community. Alongside his wife, Willie Mae, he owned and operated Arceneaux Realty for more than 40 years. He was a life-long member of Saint Paul United Methodist Church, where he was a catalyst for and instrumental in the development of the Parrish. He served as a member of the trustee board, the Methodist Men, the Pastor Parrish Relations Committee and was the superintendent of Sunday School for a long tenure. Mr. Arceneaux was also a loyal member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and served as a proud member of the United States Navy.
Mr. Arceneaux is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Willie Mae Ladd Arceneaux, his daughters Meadow Lark Washington of Lutherville, Maryland, Andrea Arceneaux of Houston, Texas, and Robin Arceneaux Beaty of Richmond, Texas, two sons-in-law, Joe Washington, Jr. and Rahn Beaty, granddaughter Brandy Washington and her husband Tim Nickerson, grandson, Carl Addison Manney, his coaching buddy/brother-in-law, Turner Odell Ladd of Pittsburg, Texas, and his sister-in-law Dorothy Ladd of El Paso, Texas. He was proceeded in death by his two sisters, Margie Justice and Lois Boone, and two brothers, Benny Arceneaux and Lionel Arceneaux.
Funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, August 29, 2014 at St. Paul United Methodist Church, with a viewing from 9 a.m. until service time. Entombment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home.
