

Percy May, Jr. departed this life on Sunday, August 10, 2014 at his home surrounded by family members. He was a native of Port Arthur, Texas and a resident for 69 years. Percy was born on July 10, 1945, to the late Percy May, Sr. and Beulah Martin May.
He was a 1964 graduate of Abraham Lincoln high School, and attended Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA. He worked at Lockeed in Los Angeles, CA for several years. Percy served as Business Manager at the Laborers Local Union #853 and did other jobs within the construction industry until his retirement, with 35 years of service. He was a passionate advocate for workers rights. Percy was the Owner of May Day Movers and May Day Furniture Store.
Percy was preceded in death by his parents: Percy, Sr. and Beulah Martin May, brothers, Earl May, Andrew May, J.D. May, Cleveland May, L.D. May, and Irvine May; sisters, Lucille May Robinson, and Barbara Ann May Jerry.
Survivors include: his devoted wife and best friend of 45 years, Gwendolyn Laday May; one son, Percy May III; one daughter, Tiffany May; one granddaughter, Madison Victoria May; two brothers, Rev. Russell May (Deloris) and Paul May (Clara); two sisters, Dorothy Joubert and Helen Stephenson; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
A celebration of life funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, August 23, 2014 at Gabriel Funeral Home with a viewing from 9 a.m. until service time. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home.
