Alfredo Pugliese

He came to Canada as a young man from Perano, Italy, in January 1968 arriving at Pier 21 in Halifax before making his way to Guelph. One of his first memories of Canada was seeing the vast wilderness from the train as it travelled from Halifax to Montreal. During his almost 60 years in Canada, he has since built a wonderful life with a loving family and many friends. He was a great provider, husband, father, grandfather, son-in-law and friend.

Alfredo will be deeply missed by his beloved wife of 54 years, Mary; his sons, Paul and Michael; and his daughters-in-law, Carolyn and Shannon. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Gaby, Logan, Adam, Bennett, and Tanner. He is also survived by his sisters, Anna and Tina; his brother, Francesco; and their families, as well as his brother-in-law Reg and his wife, Louise.

A man of few words, Alfredo was known as a hard worker, a good father, and a friendly presence. He taught his children the value of hard work and found happiness in life’s everyday pleasures: spending time with his grandchildren, puttering around the house, barbecuing, and sharing morning coffee with Mary and their friends at the local coffee shops.

We also wish to sincerely thank Dr. Graham, the nurses, volunteers, and all the support staff at Hospice Wellington for the exceptional care and compassion they gave Alfredo in the final days of his life.

He will be remembered with love and missed every day.

The family will receive their friends at the Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home, 252 Dublin St N., Guelph on Monday, November 2, 2026 from 9-11 a.m. A private family service will be held in the chapel followed by interment at Marymount Cemetery. A celebration of Alfredo’s life for close family and friends to follow at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Hospice Wellington in recognition of the amazing care and compassion provided to Alfredo in his short time there.
