Benny peacefully passed in the early morning of June 2nd in Egerton Village at Riverside Retirement and Long Term Care Home. Predeceased by newborn Stefany Lynn (April 1, 1967). Survived by his wife Paula, Jennie and Mario Maggiolo, and Kevin and Jessica Monico. His three greatest treasures, grandsons Logan, Lucas and Mason Maggiolo will miss all the times that Nonno Benny tried to impart life lessons to them.
Predeceased by brothers Giuseppe and wife Luigina in Argentina, Guglielmo (late Rita), Gino (late Terezina), Maria and Francesco Simeoni, Tranquillo and Aurora Monico, Liberale Monico, and John Monico. Survived by sisters Gina (late Giulio Stocco) and Luciana (late Riccardo Turcato). Survived by sisters-in-law Gina and Maria Monico. Benny will also be missed by many nieces and nephews.
His fervid faith shone the path forward for him, informing all the decisions he made in life, and sustaining him during the challenging times. He was also a long-time member (60+ years) of St. Joseph’s Church and Knights of Columbus, and a 60+ year usher at 10:15 mass. He so very proudly wore the Knights’ attire at all the religious services. When he was not able to be present, he always made certain that a replacement was available.
The first encounter of Riesini occurred in 1972, with a visit by Mons. Giuseppe Liesse, who celebrated Mass at St. Joseph Church, followed by a time of fellowship in the Church Hall.
A wonderful time of re-connecting, of joy, of surprise at finding one another. That was the beginning!; and every year thereafter new planning for a new Festa. With the passage of time strength and memory diminish but the “grinta” will live on. Thank you! VIVA RIESE.
Benny was the President of the “Comitato S. Pio X” (the Pope Pius 10th Committee) for over 50 years. Sharing the birthplace of Riese Pio X with Pope Pius X inspired Benny to help foster devotion to this humble saint, in many parts of the world. The Comitato S. Pio X was formed with citizens from Riese, Italy.
The late Mons. Canuto Toso presided over the publication “Trevisani nel Mondo”, a newspaper dedicated to Italian culture and business. Benny was encouraged to run as president and became its first president in Guelph.
First and foremost, Benny was a dedicated family man whose love for us was all encompassing. His love from above will be our guiding light!
