BENSON, DORIS – It is with sadness that the family of Doris May Margeson Benson announces her sudden passing on Sunday, October 13, 2013, in her 89th year. She was the loving mother of Margaret Caroline Benson and the overjoyed grandmother of Allan, Deanna (Hari Rathod), Andrew (Tina Newlove), Suzanne (Trevor Van Den Bussche), and Kristan (Brian Stewart) Hendriks, and tickled-pink great-grandmother of Nigel Hendriks, Jiya Rathod, Quinson and Amelia Van Den Bussche. She is survived by her brother Douglas Margeson; predeceased by brothers Leonard and Kenneth Margeson, and sisters Ruth Whelpley and Phyllis MacDonald. Doris graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1946 from Victoria General Hospital in Halifax, and married her sailor love, Allan Burritt Benson in 1946 (died 1968). She was active as a nurse in Toronto, Winnipeg, Oakville and Guelph, and was always ready for a game of bridge or cribbage. Family will receive friends at the Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home, Dublin Chapel, Guelph, where visitation will take place on Friday, October 18 from 2:00– 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 19 at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of St. Margaret and St. John, St. John’s-Kilmarnock School, 2201 Schantz Station Rd., Breslau. A burial service will take place at St. Jude's Cemetery, Oakville, on Monday, October 21, 2013 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Red Cross, Guelph Branch, with thanks to them for their compassionate care.
