After 32 years of a wonderful marriage, Betty lost the love of her life, Ivan Karl. Also pre-deceased by her parents, Ernest and Bertha (Goetz) Blythe, brothers Gerald, Pat and Joe, as well as a special aunt, Odelia Goetz, who was a schoolteacher and lived with the family for most of her life.
Betty, as she was fondly known, was the very proud mother of Kathleen of Kitchener, Helen (Peter) of Connecticut and James of Halifax. Her life revolved around her family, who she deeply loved and had always been there for her. She also leaves grandchildren Lisa, Sara, Brigitte (Will), Christian and Kristina; and great-grandchildren Riley, Ben and Clara. Also survived by brother-in-law Leonard Karl (Dorothy) of Hanover, and sisters-in-law Mary Ann Karl of Kitchener and Jean Blythe of London.
Betty was active in different sports through her teenage years including ice skating, hockey, skiing and baseball. She had many fond memories of summers at the cottage that Ivan built on Gould Lake; swimming, boating, Sauble Beach and stock car races. She loved socializing with her many wonderful friends and neighbours over the years, which contributed to her happy life.
In particular, Betty shared a very special bond and love with her granddaughter, Lisa, “the doll”, as she referred to her. They enjoyed holding hands and cuddling on the couch during their frequent visits. Betty often thought God blessed her with a long life to help watch over and be a support to the little angel.
Arrangements entrusted to Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home. A Visitation will take place at Westmount Memorial Celebration Centre, 1001 Ottawa Street S, Kitchener, on Thursday, October 1 from 4:00-8:00PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Anthony Daniel Catholic Church, 29 Midland Dr, Kitchener, on Friday October 2 at 10:30AM. Reception to follow in church hall. Burial to follow at Marymount Cemetery, 5400 Highway 6 N, Guelph.
