She was born June 9 in Yaguara, Huila, Colombia to Rafael Ceron and Raquel Polania. She married Malcolm A. Wilkie (deceased) and with four young children, emigrated to Canada, almost immediately losing her husband to a tragic accident. Isabel went on to forge a new life with faith in God, courage, and hard work.
She worked at the University of Guelph, McLaughlin Library for over 32 years, and spent many years working part-time at the Homewood.
She loved to travel, visiting dozens of countries over her lifetime, often with her children, and eventually, her grandchildren joined her on many adventures.
She developed an impressive knowledge of art, literature, music, and culture, and amassed an incredible collection from her travels.
Gregarious and outgoing, she commanded the room with her incredible force of nature, was fiercely loyal to family and friends, and helped lift up so many within her sphere.
Isabel leaves behind her children Malcolm Wilkie (Anne), James C. Wilkie, Maria Carmenza Whitley (Roy), and Jenny Wilkie. She is a cherished grandmother to Joshuah, Jennifer, Brandon, Meagan, Malcolm, Vanessa, Elsa, Kira, Ian and James and a proud great-grandmother of 6 great grandchildren. She will be missed and remembered by her many nieces, nephews, cousins, and her beloved cat, Hank.
Isabel is predeceased by her brother Gilberto Ceron and survived by her brother Arturo Ceron.
Isabel stood as a pillar, steadfast and true and will be remembered for generations as our beloved, "the Nana".
Rest in peace, your work is done.
Matthew 11:28: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest".
