Kathleen "Kay" Belle Mighton

Although Kay had suffered with Alzheimer's in her last years, her legacy is a story of a very creative, active, community minded, talented food writer, cookbook author, TV cooking show host, a good friend to so many, and her favourite roles, as an amazing mom and grandmother. She was predeceased by her son, Robert Spicer (2021) "always Bobby to her". In 2024 Mom lost her beloved husband and best friend, Jim (James) Mighton with whom she shared so many adventures, travels and "projects" with, usually starting with an "I have an idea" and Jim happily getting on board and offering his fabulous and "sage" advice, guidance and often a hammer required. What a team!

Kay was born in Hafford Sask to Walter and Belle Bergman. Attending the University of Sask, Bachelor of Home Economics, and Western University, attaining a Masters in Journalism. Kay was a very enthusiastic leader and participant in so many areas, her curiosity, interest and passions were abundant, and what she loved best was sharing the story of food, whether at their abundant dining table with family and friends, in print, on TV and just hanging in the kitchen, cooking!!

Kay will be celebrated and remembered at many tables, including her daughters Susan Spicer, Patti Spicer, Grandchildren Morgan Angrove (Alex Roe), Hilary Angrove (Mark Taylor), Ryan Angrove and (at last count) five great grandchildren. Sister MaryEllen Spicer, niece Carolyn Spicer and nephews Eric Spicer, Terry Spicer, the large and lovely Mighton family children and grandchildren. The lovely ladies of St. George’s Anglican Lowville Ontario and her many friends and colleagues around the country.

A memorial service is planned for what would be Kay's 94th birthday on September 19, 2026, at St. George's Anglican on the Hill outside of Campbellville ON. All are welcome, and of course, there will be food!
