Mary DiCarlo

With peaceful hearts and deep gratitude for a long and cherished life, the family of Mary (Malison) DiCarlo announces her passing at St. Josephs Health Care Centre in Guelph, at the age of 90 yrs on August 7th, 2026.

Born to the late Adele and Eduardo Malison. Mary was the youngest of five children. She is now reunited with her brothers Edo, Odo, Lido and her sister Nevis. Mary was also the loving wife of the late Nick DiCarlo with whom she built a warm and lasting legacy.

Mary was the devoted and deeply loved mother of her very special daughters Cathy (Fred) and Susan (John). She always said, “If you want something done, just ask the DiCarlo girls”. She took immense pride in her role as Nana to Brittany (Dan), Michael (Fran), Adam (Sarah), Amanda (Mitchell) and Chloe and was a treasured Great-Nana to Riley and Carter. She will also be fondly remembered and deeply missed by her beloved niece Susie and nephew Robert, who she always held forever close to heart. With her warmth and immeasurably love she will be remembered by many caring and loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Mom’s home was her sanctuary and her peace - the foundation of where family and friends gathered for visits, dinners, Sunday breakfasts, celebrations and sleepovers. Her home was always decorated for every occasion, inspiring neighbours and passersby as she transformed it with each passing season. Her gardens and flowers were tended to with care and encouragement and sometimes even a bit of scotch tape. She sure did love her flowers. Whether in the garden or inside the house, fresh blooms always took centre stage to greet you.

Mary was a constant pillar of support to her family and friends, endlessly thinking of others through acts of thoughtfulness and kindness. She was truly blessed with many special, long-time friends whom she shared cherished memories and endless laughter. Mary had a rare gift – she could make friends with anyone, anywhere, through her genuine interest in people. If you came as a guest, you left as a friend. Strangers didn’t stay strangers long as her warmth and curiosity always won them over. Mary never met a stranger she didn’t know.

Nana treasured her grandchildren above all else. They were her absolute pride and joy. She had an abundant amount of time and presence for those precious hearts. Nana was their prized pie maker with each one having their favourite pie on repeat. Nana was a serious baker – sprinkle fairy, crafter, bedazzler, sticker enhancer, coloured marker enthusiast, paint by numbers artist, photo book aficionado, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune masterful puzzle solver and recipe creator that made your heart go awhhh!

Mary will forever be remembered for her warmth, strength and unconditional love she shared. A mother’s love will always be the heart of home and family. Thanks mom, for that. To honour her memory, please consider sharing a bouquet of flowers with someone to brighten their day and bring a smile to their face, just for no reason at all.

A very special thank you to all the wonderful and compassionate palliative carers mom was fortunate to meet along her final journey who kept her days comfortable with humour, warmth, care and presence.

There are not enough hugs to thank the beautiful people who continued to visit mom, spend time with her, chat, laugh, pray, reminisce, tell stories and most of all, love her. She was truly blessed and we are so thankful for your presence until the end.

In keeping with moms wishes a private family service will be held. Donations in her memory can be made to St. Josephs Health Centre, Guelph – Palliative Care.
