Mike passed in the company of his wife Valerie and step-granddaughter. Priscilla. Mike's son Christopher was able to be present over speakerphone and talked at length so that Mike could listen to his voice.
Mike will be forever missed by his wife. Valerie (nee Veidenheimer) Little, his step-grandchildren, Farah and Priscilla Leitch, and their mother, Jennifer De Ward, his children Christopher and Rebecca, and son-in-law Rob as well as Rob's parents Ron and Joyce Savoline. His cousins, Patrick, Steven and Martha Downes will forever hold him in their hearts and memory.
Mike is predeceased by his father John Sanders "Sandy" Little, his mother, Dorothy Mary (nee Downes) Little and his wife Kathleen (nee Murdock) Little.
Mike was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the only child of Sandy and Dorothy. He loved life and adventures, but everything that he accomplished everything that he had dreamed of doing everything that he created and everything that he loved to do was done, with careful consideration for thought and reflection. He was a thinker, a philosopher, and an intellectual. It was this acumen that paved the way to his distinguished career. As a political science professor at the University of Guelph for nearly 30 years, he was awarded a BA and an MA and later a PhD well still teaching. He gained many colleagues and friends over his tenure there. Many graduates were successful due to his wisdom, savvy and erudition.
In his younger years, Mike loved sports including basketball, baseball, football, curling and squash and his favorite activity sailing. He built his own catamaran from scratch, and was later the proud owner of a sailboat named Sundowner which the family moored in Wiarton Ontario for many years.
Mike will be sadly missed but will be fondly remembered for his dry sense of humor, his ability to improvise his spontaneity and his idealism.
Visitation with his family will be held on Monday, May 4th from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home 252 Dublin Street North Guelph, Ontario.
