Richard Charles Skater, of Guelph, Ontario, passed away peacefully of natural causes at Guelph General Hospital. He was born in Guelph to his loving parents, Rose Skater (née Raso) and Samuel Sylvester Skater.
Richard was a devoted father to Melissa (James), Maria, Josh, Amber, and Cody, and a proud and loving grandfather to Joey, Hunter, Noah, Alexis, and Ashlin. He was predeceased by his twin brother Ronald and his cherished granddaughter Maddyson.
Richard had a remarkable gift for working with his hands, especially when it came to fixing vehicles. He had a lifelong passion for old-fashioned cars and spent many treasured hours working on them alongside his brother Ron. His skills and willingness to help others made him someone many could rely on.
He shared a special and enduring friendship with his ex-wife, Judy Andrews (née Shortt), who remained his best friend throughout his life.
Richard found joy in life’s simple pleasures—enjoying fish and chips, spending time in his beautiful home, and caring deeply for his beloved dogs, Becky (predeceased) and Gidget. He had a big heart, always extending kindness to both people and animals.
Richard also had a deep love for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and found great comfort in his faith. He especially enjoyed church hymns, which brought him peace and joy throughout his life.
Richard will be remembered for his generosity, his talents, his sense of humor, and the love he gave so freely to those around him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A gathering to celebrate Richard’s life will be held on May 9 at 1:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (190 Marksam Rd. Guelph).
Until we meet again.
