Andrew Kollar

Andrew “Andy” Kollar of Gurnee, Illinois, went to be with our Lord on February 9 while sleeping peacefully during his stay at The Village at Victory Lakes in Lindenhurst, Il. We are thankful for their attentive, rehabilitative care. He was ninety-two at the time of his passing.

Andy was born on September 5, 1930, to Joseph and Anna (Felix) Kollar in Yatesboro, PA. After Andy graduated from Uniontown Area High School, he met his wife Wilma L. Clingan and went on to serve in combat for the U.S. Army in Korea from 3/20/1952 until 12/19/1953, and then as a reservist from 12/19/1953 until 4/16/1960. As a Sergeant, the U.S. Army recognized his honorable service by awarding him the Bronze Star with Valor.

After completing his tour of duty, he and his wife Wilma moved to Chicago, IL where he attended DeVry Institute of Technology to obtain necessary technical education to start a life-long career with AT&T. Andrew and Wilma went on to have two twin children, Robin and Robert.

Andy was predeceased by his wife, Wilma; grandson, Ryland Kollar; and siblings, Joseph, John, Mary, George, Mike, Steve, Ann, Margaret, Helen, Pauline, and Nicholas (half-brother). He is survived by his loving and committed partner of 15 years, Judy Redstrom; his two children, Robin (Ralph) Huszagh of Lake Bluff, IL, Robert (Adriana) Kollar of Kenosha, WI; five grandchildren, Alec, Suzanne (Christian) Schmidt, Carolyn (Nelson) Smith, Meredith, and Erich; and two of his siblings, William “Billy” and Veronica Morgan.

Visitation services will be held at Marsh Funeral Home, 305 N. Cemetery Road in Gurnee, IL on Thursday, February 16th, from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00am on Friday, February 17, 2023 at the Church of St. Patrick's Catholic Church (15000 W. Wadsworth Road, Wadsworth, IL 60083). Immediately following the Mass, Andy will be laid to rest at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Arlington Heights with full military honors.
