

Ausencio “Al” Almanzo of Lindenhurst (formerly of Waukegan) passed away on December 26, 2024 at Condell Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was 99. He was born in Clarksville,Texas on December 18, 1925 to Reynaldo and Modesta Almanzo.
He is survived by his children, Dave (Barb) Almanzo, Gloria (Bob, Sr.) Hlousek, Tom (Catherine) Almanzo, Kim (Bill) Borzick; his grandchildren, Karita (Matt) Bentley, Megan (Corey) Whipps, Pete (Kathy) Bell, Rick (Mariloren) Bell, Bob, Jr. (Carrie) Hlousek, Thomas (Linda) Almanzo, Nicole (Dustin) Heinrichs, Jon (Maddi) Borzick, Brad Borzick, Max (Cheyenne Nogradi) Borzick; 16 great-grandchildren; his sister Mary Lopez of Wichita Falls, Texas, and many nieces and nephews.
Al was drafted into WWII into the Navy and was assigned to the USS Bausell destroyer. He worked at Abbott for 46 years and enjoyed playing 16” softball and bowling in the Abbott leagues. After playing, he later managed the softball team for years. He was also part of the Abbott Fire Brigade. He really enjoyed his time at Abbott.
He loved to spend time with his wife and family up north in northern Wisconsin, in Minnesota and visiting relatives in Mississippi and Texas. He enjoyed seeing his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and activities. He was a very proud father and grandfather.
He loved fishing and often fished in the summer and ice fished in the winter in northern Wisconsin. He enjoyed a fishing trip to Canada with a friend and talked about it often.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 75 years Dolores E. (Lippincott) Almanzo, his parents Reynaldo and Modesta Almanzo, sisters Antonia Almanzo, Juanita (Ralph) Garcia, Lupe Almanzo, and his brother Jesse Almanzo.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 12:00 noon at Marsh Funeral Home, 305 N Cemetery Road, Gurnee, IL Interment will follow at Ascension Catholic Cemetery, Libertyville, IL.
