July 26, 1940 - May 17, 2016 Donavon is now at peace with his wife of forty-nine years. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and doting grandfather. Family, friends and a strong work ethic were the pillars of his life. Don was born to Leon & Emma (nee Hoff) Winckler in Avon, South Dakota.
After receiving his college degree in South Dakota, he was drafted into the military and spent two years in the United States Army. Don transferred to Wisconsin for his career in retail management, where he met his future wife. He married Judy Pharr on Aug 28, 1966. The couple stayed in the Chicagoland area and Don continued in retail management for twenty years. His hardworking nature spurred his desire to begin his own company. He ran WDJ Inc. up until he passed away.
Donavon always retained a strong connection to his roots in South Dakota, where he enjoyed spending time with his brothers as well as extended family and friends. Years on the farm honed his skills as a resident handyman. His kind spirit and selfless ways made him beloved by all. Spending time with his boys and grandchildren brought him the greatest joy.
Donavon is survived by his brothers Loren (Judy nee Van Gerpen) Gerald (Jan nee Sell), two sons Jaison (Colleen nee Schubeck) and Darin (Catherine nee Cywinski) and four grandchildren, Emma 13, Brendan 12, Kyle 11, & Meagan 10.
