

Magdalin Anna List Peterson, 91 years old, of Gurnee, IL, passed away on Monday, December 11, 2023 at The Laurel at Vernon Hills Memory Care, where she lived the past three and a half years throughout the later stages of her battle with Alzheimer's Disease. "Madge" was born May 7th, 1932, in Joliet, IL and she grew up on her parents' farm in Grant Park, IL. As a girl, Madge enjoyed riding horse, "Star", played organ and piano during services in her family's church, and graduated Valedictorian of her high school class.
Madge attended Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, IL where she majored in Education, Spanish, and French. She also met Harry, the love of her life, who later became her husband. They built their house in Gurnee. In the 1960's, Madge taught in the Waukegan school district as an English-as-a-Second-Language teacher. Being literate in three languages facilitated her understanding of how to welcome her young students from immigrant families and help them succeed in school with their new English language skills.
Madge was a member of First Christian Church in Gurnee. She filled roles of Sunday School Director, and Church Librarian.
Devoted Daughter and only child of John List and Rosa Selbach List; Beloved Wife of the late Harry Raymond Peterson; Dedicated Mother of Douglas John Peterson (spouse Marianela Abello Peterson), Raymond Bruce Peterson (spouse Caroline Claffey Peterson), Brian Craig Peterson (spouse Joanne Peterson); Loving Grandmother to Alexander Douglas Peterson (spouse Tess Troha-Thompson), Mallory Jayne Peterson, Adam Blake Peterson (partner Alexandra Leska), Brittanny Peterson Nathan (spouse Nicholas Nathan); Great-grandmother to Lily and Ryder Nathan.
A visitation will be held Friday, December 15, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Marsh Funeral Home, 305 N Cemetery Rd, Gurnee, IL 60031.
A funeral service will occur Friday, December 15, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, 305 N Cemetery Rd, Gurnee, IL 60031.
A committal service will occur Friday, December 15, 2023 from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at North Shore Garden of Memories, 1801 Green Bay Rd, North Chicago, IL 60064.
