Maria M. Hill (Miethaner) passed away peacefully on January 30th. Born in Straubing, Germany, Maria came to the US as a young woman. Maria and her husband, Hugh Simms began their life in the south, but soon moved to Zion Illinois where they raised their family. Maria was educated as a Medical Technician and worked for Victory Hospital for 25 years. She was a long time member of Our Lady of Humility Catholic Church. Maria enjoyed square dancing and traveling with her second husband, Gene Hill. She treasured her annual St. Patty's day corned beef and cabbage event with friends (don't forget the horseradish - the hotter, the better!). After retiring, Maria enjoyed traveling internationally. She volunteered her time at many places including the Waukegan Public Library, St. Therese gift shop and St. Vincent DePaul. Maria loved reading, listening to all types of music, and was an avid knitter. She also enjoyed cooking for her family. Once life guided her to assisted living, Maria continued to make many friends with the caring staff at Carey Manor and virtually every doctor who attended to her, always noting their last name, ethnicity and inquiring about their family origin. Preceding Maria in death were her parents Johan & Maria Miethaner, brothers Johan (WWII) and Josef, all four of her children: Mark, Steven, Pattie and Chris, her husband Gene Hill, and her dear friend Ray (Matthew) Nash. Survivors include many incredible dear friends, her stepdaughters Barb Fiebelkorn & Nancy Barthuly, her grandchildren Jesse Fiebelkorn, Angie (BJ) Rayniak, Jacqueline and Alex Barthuly, and her niece Elaine Hamilton (Seabrook Texas). Visitation 9am until time of Mass 10am Saturday February 6, 2016 at Our Lady of Humility 10655 W. Wadsworth Rd. Zion, Il. Burial Ascension Cemetery. Arrangements By Marsh Funeral Home.
