Richard Groomes

Richard was born on January 2nd, 1950 in Waukegan, IL to Robert and Earline (nee Gregory) Groomes. After high school, he proudly served his county in the United States Marine Corps. After returning home, he worked for the Lake County Sheriff’s office, and later as an Electrical Engineer with ComEd for 25 years until his retirement.

Richard loved listening to all music, from AC/DC to Neil Diamond and Eric Clapton. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time outdoor fishing and enjoying nature and any wildlife he encountered. He explored his creative side through drawing, and even took a few art classes with his son, Chris.

Richard was a CB Radio enthusiast. As an engineer, he gravitated toward “do-it-yourself” type jobs. He loved to learn about anything and everything, from gardening to philosophy.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jo Groomes; his son Chris Groomes (Michelle Loy); and brothers Ron Groomes and Terry Griffin.

A visitation for Richard will be held at Marsh Funeral Home, 305 N Cemetery Rd, Gurnee, IL 60031 on Friday, April 10, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, a Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, April 10, 2026, at 7:00 pm. Interment will be private
