Allan S. Gutfleish, of Englewood, NJ, passed away in Delray Beach, Florida on his 91st birthday, October 12, 2022. Born to Harry and Rae Gutfleish in the Bronx, NY, the family later moved to Paterson and Fair Lawn, NJ, where he graduated high school. He enrolled in Rutgers University at 16 and was elected a member of Phi Beta Kappa, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in 1952. He then entered NYU Law School, where he was elected to the Editorial Board of the Law Review, graduating with a Juris Doctor in 1954, and returning to get his Masters in 1970.
He married Charlotte Goldberg in 1956 and had four children, Ronald (Stacey), Philip (Rhonda), Kim (Robert) and Harry (Merri). With a keen mind and sharp wit, his love of learning continued through his entire life and was still taking courses in his late eighties. In addition to working as a practicing attorney for nearly 50 years, he also served as Judge of the Englewood Municipal Court, President of Temple Sinai and the Attorney for the Englewood Board of Education. After Charlotte passed away after a long illness in 1986, he married Phyllis Glick in 1988 and the two of them travelled all over the world. In addition to Phyllis’ stepchildren, Ellen (Bob), Mark (Alma) and Susan (Andre), he is survived by his grandchildren, Jessica, Alex, Joey, Charlotte, Kenan, Hanna, Nick and Jack, a great grandchild, Jane and step grandchildren, Candace, Christina, Clay, Alex, Zoey, Morgan and Leah. He was endlessly devoted to all and would drop anything to help. He was, indeed, “a presence” and will be sorely missed
