I recently visited the building where Dr Gitler's office used to be and I considered stopping by. I have been in good health, mostly because of the excellent care I received from Dr Gitler, and I have not been in need of ENT treatment in years. When I went to the building a sense for foreboding hit and I  knew. Now a search has revealed that this great man has been gone since 2016. I remember our last visit he revealed some of his medical issues and despite what he told me, I chose to believe he would overcome it.  Dr Gitler was one of the most caring, conscientious and thorough providers I have ever worked with. He took my symptoms seriously and was able to rectify the problem when no other provider could. He performed surgery on my sinus' and stopped nearly weekly sinus infections. I am so very fortunate to have been a patient of his. Such an amazing and giving man. My heart aches for his family, friends, staff and patients. The world lost a great human being. 

Just heard of David's death. He was a  great doctor and old school Jacobi.
I will miss him.

My mom and I have been calling the office until just now when I continued to search for Dr. Gitler,because of how wonderful of a doctor he was. And to my surprise and sadness just found out that he has passed away. Such a loss of such a wonderful human being. He will truly be missed. 


We are very saddened by the death of Dr Gitler, many of the nuns here at the monastery have been going to him for years. One sister who was having trouble getting a diagnosis is especially grateful that Doctor did the testing and confirmed her problem expressing his heartfelt sympathy. A wonderful caring man, I always enjoyed discussing Psalms with him and many other things. Our sympathies to his hard working wife and all the family. We will pray. May he rest in the arms of Abraham.

Dr Gitler wow what a man with passion for his patients love, I knew Dr Gitler from my early days at Jacobi, 1979 was our first meet.  He took care of me than, and he took care of me up until his finial days.  He was not only my Doctor, he was my friend.  We talked about so much, books, medical issues , books that he liked, Jacobi and the workings, his travels his children, I could go on an on, then one day he talked about his health, we talked of treatments on my many visits to his office.  My last visit was a sad one for me, when my visit was complete, he stood tall looked at me and said "take care of your self, you know I am a sick man" I said yes I know.I knew that day, I was never going to have a friend, a caring MD again. My many Prays to his family, his wife who loved him. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the services you have provided me for many years.

We would like to send our condolences to the family of Dr. David Gitler. He was a wonderful, compassionate Doctor. He will be missed dearly.

I am so very sorry for the passing of Dr. David Gitler.  He was such a caring and compassionate man.  He was professional and stood tall, but so loving to my family.  My 7 year old son Jason Jr. loved going to his ENT visits.  He loved talking to Dr. Gitler and telling him about life in the second grade.  He always spoke to us about his grandchildren whom he loved dearly.  My heart is is full of sadness and my prayers are with his family.  The world has lost an amazing man and spirit.  Thank you for everything you did for my son.  You will be missed.

It was very sad to learn of Dr. Gitler's passing. He was an excellent doctor and friend. He has touched the hearts of many. Rest in peace. You will be missed.

He always had time for everyone. He had time for me even when he was struggling with his foot problem. He took care of me and my girls. Even when performing a trivial procedure it was always performed with dignity and professionalism. I wipe my tears and I smile and bless G-d that I knew him.

Dr. David Gitler was an excellent phsyician and a mentch.
I am so sorry to learn of his passing he will be missed at jacobi, Montefiore and Einstein.

Dr. Gitler was always a calming presence in the clinic or OR. A true mensch and will be greatly missed by me. Thank you David for your support through the years.

I am so sorry to learn of David's passing. I too was a resident with him at Einstein. He was a wonderful teacher and  unendingly kind to me . I will always remember dinner in your Sukkah over looking the city and how he loved your four little boys. May you be comforted among the mourners of zion and  Israel.

I also worked with him, and was a former resident.  I am so sorry to hear of his passing at such a young age.  He was an inspiration to us all!

I am very sorry to hear about the loss of this very kind and caring man.   I worked with him at Jacobi Medical Center.   He always had the time for a consultation with a colleague.   He will be missed.
