

Beloved husband of Teris (Weinberger) for 51 years. Born in Chelsea, Massachusetts to the late Beatrice (Seltzer) and Harry Binder and raised in Chelsea and Everett, MA, Fred was also a longtime resident of Teaneck.
Fred was a devoted and talented educator for 43 years. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Boston University and, while pursuing his doctorate at Columbia University, he taught at Fairlawn High School. His academic career as professor of history included Ball State University in Indiana, the City College of New York and for 25 years at The College at Staten Island. Fred served as a department chair at both of the NYC colleges. At the College of Staten Island he received the Dolphin Award for teaching excellence in 1983. He was the author or co-author of five books in his field of American Social History.
Fred was a lieutenant in the US Army from 1954- 1956. He was an active member of Temple Emeth in Teaneck, where he chaired several committees.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his devoted daughter Abby of Vestal, NY, his cherished grandsons Jaydon and Nathaniel, his loving brothers Richard (Elaine) of Bethesda, MD and Robert (Ruth) of short Hills, his sister-in-law Sally(James) Weiner of Westwood, MA. Fred will also be missed by his niece and nephews and numerous friends and cousins. The family would also like to express their appreciation to Phyllis, Angella, Nora and Anita who helped care for Fred in his final months.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Temple Emeth, Teaneck, NJ, Hackensack Riverkeeper, or your favorite charity.
Funeral Service was held on Tuesday 1/19/2016 at Temple Emeth 1666 Windsor Rd. Teaneck, NJ.
Shiva will be held Tuesday after the cemetery, Wednesday, Thursday 7PM-9PM with a &: 7:30 PM Minyan Service each night at the Meeting Room on the lobby floor of the residence. Shiva will be also held Wednesday & Thursday 2pm-4pm at the family's apartment #8A,; 245 Prospect Ave, Hackensack, NJ 07601.
