I am saddened that I have only now learned of Dr. Binder's passing. I have thought of him often over the past 30 years since taking three of his classes while pursuing a BA in History at CSI. His nurturing support and inspiring instruction enabled me to become a good HS Social Studies teacher. His influence also made me a better person and citizen. Dr. Binder was an exceptionally great man.

It is with great sadness that I have only now learned of the passing of Professor Fred Binder.  As an adult returning to college after a 13 year hiatus majoring in history, Professor Binder was an outstanding teacher, advisor, and inspiration. His professional manner and outstanding historical knowledge still inspires me. I have thought of him often since graduating CSI, and I'll never forget him.  He was a sweet, wonderful man and a true scholar. Please accept my deepest sympathies.

My deepest condolences to the family of Fred Binder.  As an older adult returning to college, I found Professor Binder a supportive and nurturing mentor.  Year after year, he encouraged me to become a Social Studies teacher, and year after year I laughed and declined.  When I last saw him several years ago at a memorial service, I was able to tell him that I had finally heeded his advice and was teaching Social Studies to Special Ed middle school students. The smile that lit up his face will live in my memory forever.  Thanks, Fred Binder, for teaching me to love teaching, to love American History, to love students and to love "telling the stories" that my students are so very eager to hear.   Your style and grace will always be my model of pedagogical excellence; I will see and hear you at the front of the classroom forever!

My deepest condolences to the Binder family.  As a graduate of the MALS program that Prof. Binder founded, I will never forget his kindness, warmth and words of encouragement that he gave me pushing me to complete my thesis.  I will always be grateful.  He was a gentle soul and I will miss him.

Fred Binder was a great colleague and a wonderful part of the history department.  Although he had already retired when I arrived, he still came to events and was a warm and welcoming presence.
