After serving in the Army during the Korean War, Melvin returned to New Jersey where he taught history at Dickinson High School and resided in Bayonne.
He married Marilyn Kline on July 10, 1960, a union that lasted until her death in 1997. Melvin and Marilyn were avid travelers and visited many areas of the world. Melvin was an excellent photographer who loved to share photographs of their trips.
Melvin was an active member of Temple Emanu-El of Bayonne and the Masonic Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and his brother, Sheldon. He is survived by two nephews, Robert and Lyle, and their families and hundreds of students whose lives he touched.
A graveside service will be held on Monday November 9, 2020 at 2:30 at Riverside Cemetery in Saddle Brook, NJ.
