My deepest and heartfelt sympathies to all of you on the loss of Ruth; a spectacular mother, grandmother, wife, sister-in-law, daughter-in-law and friend.
And for me, a friend...my very best friend... the best friend anyone could possibly have.   Ruthie was one of a kind.   She always put everyone else's problems and issues above her own.  I could call  her day or night and she was always there to listen and give great advise.   I have missed her terribly over this year and a half and I will continue to have a void in my life always.  Thank goodness I was able to spend time with her in New Jersey, just four days before her stroke.
I saved all of Ruthie's voicemails when she was able to speak again.   While lying in a hospital bed, unable to move, she said "Hi, Rise.  I am calling to see how your week is going."   And this is Ruth in a nutshell.
May you rest in peace my dearest friend.

There are not enough words to express our heartfelt sympathy to all!  I called her my Ruthie! She was a unique person with a big heart.  Her determination and strength made her my rock. I will miss her so much. I will never forget her love and devotion to her daughters, her husband and the people she loved! It is an honor to know her beautiful  daughters and their families.  We only hope she RIP!  We love you forever and cherish all the memories!

Ruth's kindness, compassion, and generosity of spirit, combined with her courage, made her an inspirational woman to know. She always exuded such optimism and hope. 

Thank you Ruth, for bringing such love to my longstanding friend Gary, his sister Miriam and to Rose and Roy. You and Gary were truly meant to be together, and you took such care of him, and he of you. 

Every time we visited with you, saw photos of your travels with Gary or just shared a laugh, you brought such warmth and joy. You always brought such light into the world and you are very sorely missed.

Your life was a blessing. And your memory is a blessing.

Dear Gary, Gerry, Laura, Rose and Miriam,

So many memories...hard to consolidate! Late night calls sharing both our happinesses and woes long after everyone was asleep! And most importantly...a friendship based on honesty and loyalty to a fault...without criticism or judgement.  

Gerry and Laura...I know the loss of a Mother....painful.... a deep void in your lives.  
You were her pride and joy as well as the best shopping partners for her! It brought her much joy!

Gary....your entry in her life completed her....her soulmate, companion, caregiver and her best friend. I will never forget how Ruth lit up the minute you walked in the room. And you added such an important aspect to her life....your meshpucah! She loved your family so!

We will sadly miss Ruth....each of us in our own way....each of us with our own memories.

I am so sorry to hear of her passing. She will be missed. My sincerest  condolences  to her entire family.  I remember Ruthie when I was little and we lived in Norwich.  My mom would go to play cards at their house on Sundays. She use to peak in once and a while.  I remember her big smile and she use to make me laugh a lot. She  was a teen so I thought she was neat, she was the same age as my sister.  She will be greatly missed by all.

I am so very sad to hear of Ruth's passing. She was a special person.  High school seems so long ago but the memories are still ours.  We had good times and shared a lot of laughs. I'm sorry we lost touch over the years and I'm glad we spent time together at our last class reunion.  Bless your family during this difficult time.  Tara  






Ruth was one of my closest friends in high school. It was an innocent, happy time growing up in Norwich. The high school band was a fun activity during our high school years and we were both members. It was very social with lots of great friends. We had so many fun band trips and performances. We went to the 1964 World's Fair in New York City. I remember having such a great time with Ruth and laughing so much. Seems like we were always laughing. 
      I remember spending an afternoon at Ruth's house and her trying to teach me a special dance move that we would do at the outdoor dance that night at the Elk's Club. I have so many special memories of Ruth. She was a wonderful person---always so kind and thoughtful. I'm so grateful she was a part of my life.  Rest in peace my sweet friend.    Linda Garito Boyer

We were all so saddened to hear of your beloved mothers passing.  The news is so in conflict with the full of life, spirit, and energy Ruth possessed.  I was fortunate to have met her through the close friendship of our younger daughters.  Laura (mine) and Laura (Ruth's) , who have kept in touch with each other since the age of 3.
Ruth was a special personality, a strong woman with a big heart.  She will be missed to all who knew her.  Our love goes out to Laura, and Gerry and we wish you comfort in this time of reflection.  Time will move you forward to a better set of memories and a smile will come to your faces whenever you think of your wonderful mother.  May she Rest In Peace!

I am so sorry to hear about Ruth's passing. We spent a lot of time together. Her passing is such a tremendous loss to her family and friends. Ruthie was a passionate human being. She adored her daughters, it was an unconditional love. She embraced them and gave them so many life lessons by example and listening.  She also was so happy when she met Gary. As the saying goes, it completed her. People were drawn to her, she was authentic and really gave them her time, enthusiasm and wisdom. In many ways she was very unique- and that is what she gives to Gary , her daughters, son-in -laws and grandchildren for always. They will share many amazing stories about Ruth.  She touched everyone's lives.

Extending to your family my deepest condolences on the passing of Ruth. I see she resided in New Jersey and I as well live here. While I did know her intimately and cannot relay any stories, I of course knew her as part of our class. I appreciated seeing her photos and those of fellow classmates and learning about her life after high school. Bless your family in this difficult time. Fondest regards. Judy 

When I think of Ruth  I smile!  She was a very thoughtful, caring and loyal friend!
We met at Fairleigh Dickinson University while we were both Resident Assistants.  We instantly bonded when we  spoke about being Children of Survivors and both grew up on farms.
We shared a lot of fun times in college and on Spring Break in Puerto Rico.
Ruth  loved her family and grandchildren dearly!  She loved her life with Gary and  spoke highly of his family and her love for them!  She was a lucky woman!
Ruth you will be missed!

I have so many wonderful memories of Ruth from our class of 1967.  She had an infectious smile and always had a kind word for everyone.   I am thankful that I had the chance to catch up with her at our last reunion.   My condolences to her family.

On behalf of the Norwich High School Class of 1967, I want to express our deepest sympathies to Ruth's family and friends.
Most of us only got to be with her every 5 years or so at our class reunions. Ruth will be missed.  Rest In Peace Ruth.

I am so grateful that I had the honor and privilege to share a significant part of my life with Ruth and Gary. 
Ruth will always be an inspiration on how to face adversity. 
She was a rare combination of warmth, caring and loving individual that also possessed strength and courage when it mattered the most. 
The love she showed for Gary and all of her family was always so evident. 
When she inquired, ‘how are you’? She truly meant that in the most profound way. 
God bless Ruth,  we miss you and you will be forever in our thoughts and prayers. 

Dearest Ruth -- I will always carry you in my heart.  I loved your sense of humor, irony, fashion, and adventure.  Peter and I had so much fun with you and Gary.  You lived life with gusto and joy -- whether driving around Seattle, enjoying date shakes at the Ace Hotel in Palm Springs, eating out at Zagat rated restaurants, or just schmoozing and laughing.  You were always interested in everyone else -- the greatest listener and the most caring friend. You moved heaven and earth to find the right eyeglass frames for me. Your love for your daughters, grandchildren, and for Gary sustained you and gave you superhuman strength during your most difficult time. I miss you so.  Love always ---

While complying with our "safer at home" guidelines, I recently went through our high school yearbook reading their comments and there was Ruth's.  Made me think and appreciate my many wonderful classmates.  She was a great person and we talked about heading off to college and what lie ahead as she noted in my yearbook. Her many stories, along with Evelyn's about being on the farm kept me in stitches.  And that is what I remember most, she always knew how to make me smile and did it in the most endearing way.  A very special and beautiful person. So sorry to hear the news and condolences to all.   

Ruth was a beautiful person inside and out:  optimistic and outgoing, a fearless fighter, smart and resourceful, energetic, selfless, and classy.  She loved her daughters and granddaughters – Ruth beamed with happiness when she was with them.  Ruth had a very special connection with Gary, sensing he was with her, even if she couldn’t see or hear him.
Our family will miss her dearly.   My parents adored her.  She shared being an Optician with my Father.  She helped him run his business as it became more difficult for him to get out; prolonging his enjoyment of his profession.   Ruth cared deeply for my Mother – she patiently tutored her on use of her computer and iPhone, and spoiled her by shopping for unique handbags and clothes.  
Ruth had a distinctive style including wearing chunky sliver necklaces, bracelets and rings and statement ear rings.  She coordinated her eyeglass frames with her outfits, which were often classy black clothes with a unique flare.  And she loved a pop of color, her favorite was bold red, often wearing red-eyeglass frames.  
Ruth enjoyed going out to eat, especially savoring desserts.  In restaurants, she’d take most of her main dish home in a doggy bag so she could enjoy a dessert…or two!
Ruth never complained, even though she had many struggles.  She remained focused on trying to be as active and as independent as she could be.  She never wanted to disappoint others, and she never did.


Ruth was the love of my life my best friend. We were born in the same hospital Jewish memorial in Washington Heights NY both the children of refugees. Little did I know I would meet  her many years later and the rest is history.  Ruth’s parents moved to Norwich NY where they ran a dairy farm.  Ruth always  told me  of milking cows and riding horses and all the animals on the farm.  This translated in to a life long love of animals.  Ruth always had fond memories of growing up on a farm and the community of Norwich.  Upon  graduating high school Ruth attended Fairleigh Dickerson University in Teaneck NJ  receiving her BA in 1971.  Ruth worked a variety of jobs including a stint at RCA records. Ruth settled on a career as an optician where she excelled. Her glasses frames always got attention with strangers stoping her to ask where she got those glasses. Inevitably they became customers. We could not go to the supermarket on weekends without a customer seeing her and running up to give her a hug. This applied also to our neighbors, doorman , deli man everyone loved her. I meet Ruth in 1999 and my life changed forever. We were fortunate enough to travel all across the country, Europe and Israel. We attended many concerts as we both had a love of Rock n Roll. And as both foodies we  indulged that  passion.  Ruth’s first love is her children Gerry and Laura and 
grandchildren Elle, Maya, Emilia.  Ruth  is survived by her sister Sharon Stern and husband Gary.  Everyone touched by Ruth loved her. She will be missed

Ruth, I remember the first time I met you and Evelyn. We were very shy, hiding behind our mothers. You were always my friend through all the stages of our lives. You have much to be proud of with two beautiful daughters and your sweet grand daughters. 

Thank you Gary for your love and care of Ruth. You gave her happiness and contentment. 

I will always miss you Ruth. 


It seems like only  yesterday Ruth and I were looking for kittens in the hayloft,  riding horses in the woods and marching for the Purple Tornado.  Over the years her love  and devotion to her daughters, Gerry and Laura was always evident.  Ruth was a vibrant, social, joyous person with an incredible will to be her best self.  Meeting Gary was momentous and a blessing beyond words.
To all her family, she loved you beyond all else and that is her legacy.  Carry it forward .  We will keep Ruth in our hearts forever.
