Dear Mira and Jill,
We recently learnt of your Father’s passing. Our sincere condolences! He was such a good neighbour and lovely man. After your Mother’s passing we watched with respect and admiration as he raised you two on his own with care, love and devotion. You two are a tribute to both your parents!
We remember that he hired the neighbourhood youth (our sons included) to do yard work and was always generous to them. He brought back currency from around the world for them to their delight. We especially appreciated conversing with him as he had interesting insights and experiences to share. We shall miss him and like to think that he is now happily reunited with Bernice.
Sincerely,
Joan and Stan Fage

My sincere condolences to Dr. Chatt's family. Dr. Chatt was my nuclear chemistry prof back in 2004. He was a great prof for an insanely difficult subject. I loved how he was able to bring humour to every lecture. His stories was always so fascinating. I still remember a lot of his stories. I was thinking of him last night and googled him to see how he was doing and I was so sad to find out he had left us in October. Dr. Chatt was a wonderful prof, I will never forget being told to chase after what I was good at and enjoy. I did do it, I became an accountant vs a chemist.

Dear Jill and Mira, I am so sorry to hear the news of your dear father's death. I remember him so proud of you Jill, whenever we talked at parent/ teacher interviews. I remember his infectious smile, and his friendly, joyful demeanour. I think of you and will be keeping you in my meditative thoughts and prayers and would have come to the service today but have a head cold. Love to you and your sister.

Chanduda as we called him was a very good person n very caring I knew him because he was my brother in law’s very close friend from their college days . My brother in laws passed away in 2010 but chanduda always kept in touch with us whenever he came to Delhi or Mumbai as my sister in law stays in Mumbai
We will really miss him may his soul rest in peace .🙏🙏🙏🌹

Chetna and me are deeply saddened to hear this devastating news. Life is so fragile!

The positive impact Dr Chatt had on me with his calm and friendly persona in just short 5 minutes of meeting during his daughter Mira’s wedding, just flashed before my eyes on hearing about his sudden demise.

It is so difficult to face departure of close ones. We pray that his lively soul rest in peace.

We, Rana bhua and KP uncle, along with the family, have been deeply saddened and shocked by the sudden loss of Dr. Amares Chatt.
We had the pleasure of having met a very endearing and lovely person during the wedding of Mira and Sehraj, and were looking forward to the privilege of enjoying the new relationship.
Our prayers are with the family during this extremely tough time.
Take care Mira and Jill.

Chadukaka was always a positive influence on my and sister Anji's life.
I remember the very first time I met him, I was barely 7 then, he visited Kolkata with Mira and Jill, regaling us all with his many funny stories and anecdotes of travels around the world.
To me, he was always that brilliant globe-trotting uncle, a wise father figure I respected, admired and looked up to.
He was always supportive and loving, a rock to lean on.
I remember when I was studying in London, he flew me over to Halifax for a family vacation with Mira and Jill. The highlight of that visit was the lobster exprience which he insisted on and was one of the most fun things I have done.
Over the decades the many emotions and experiences we have shared with you, Mira, Jill, Dad, Mom and Anji will always remain with me.
To an extent it seems almost befitting that he passed away doing what he really like to do - flying 30,000 feet above our heads on an Air Canada flight.
Goodbye Chadukaka, may you be at peace, reunited with your brother, my father Bhudev, "Chotdi" - my mom Shankari, my sister Anji and our elder brother, Sailesh
RIP

I ( Priya) am Ritu Mukherjee’s close friend and had met your father in Mumbai. He was a very kind and humble person. We are truly shocked by his unexpected departure. May God give you and all family members strength to bear with this loss. Our heartfelt condolences to you, Jill n all family members. Stay strong n Take care 🙏🙏 Best regards - Mrs. Kiran Dhall, Priya, Priti, Jyotsna and all family members.

Message to celebrate life for Professor Amares Chatt

I am deeply sorry that I could not be present in person to pay respect to my esteemed friend and mentor Prof Chatt.

I met prof. Chatt for the first time in a conference in India in 1996 when I was a PhD student. I clearly remember the scene how he friendly encouraged me to present my work in the conference and advised my research work, as well as the coconuts he bought and shared to the colleagues when we were in a social tour.

Since then, we many times in various conferences in the field of nuclear and radiochemistry and I know him more. In my mind, he was always humor, energetic, optimistic, helpful and indefatigable, he always rapidly responded to email, even in the midnight of his time. In the past years, he gave me a lot of advices not only in science but also in other aspects, such as communication skills with colleagues of different background and nationality to be easily understood and accepted, gradually he become my good friend and
mentor. Prof. Chatt has supervised and trained my students and young scientists from different countries, meanwhile visited many laboratories over the world, he was respected as an international scientific ambassador on nuclear analytical chemistry by all colleagues in the international community.

In his last two weeks, he was still in a scientific visit in our labs in China and gave three scientific lectures, discussed with our staffs, young scientists, and students. I could feel how deep he loved his work and enjoyed it.

Prof. Chatt is a successful and respected scientist in the society of nuclear and radiochemistry, and my friend and mentor forever. We will miss prof. Chatt dearly and see him again on the other side. May he rest in peace in the meantime.

Once when he was visiting us in Mumbai , my son was shooting with the famous actor Amitabh Bachchan , so after lunch we went to the film set and Chandu Da despite being such a great person in his own field was very much excited to meet Amitabh Bachchan
The day before he passed , I had sent him bijoya greetings . Now normally he was the first one to greet but this time I didn’t get a reply . I thought since he is travelling he must be busy . Sadly the next day we received this tragic news.
It’s been a big shock and till now I am only remembering his smiling face. He was such a great host during Mira’s Marriage. Those three days we became closer and with such energy he took care of the guests . The smile never faded.
May god give him eternal peace . I lost another elder brother . My heartfelt condolences to Mira and Jill . May god give them strength to bear this loss . Rest in Peace Chandu Da ❤️

With Deepest sorrow I am writing a few memories shared with Chandu Da . He was one of my husband’s best friends from Roorkee Engineering College. Before I met him my husband had told so many things about Chandu Da. How he used to get Sandesh , a sweet from Kolkata ,for all his friends. The first time I met him in early 1974 was when he came to Delhi. He took many photographs of my husband , me and my son who was just a few months old.Next he came with his wife Nicey when we had shifted to our house in another part of Delhi . Nicey very nicely adjusted in staying with us. We visited Agra and many other historical places in Delhi.
Whenever Chandu Da used to visit us he would always take loads of pictures of our family
Then in 1978 when we were in England , Chandu Da and Nicey came for a few days and we had a lovely time watching a play and eating Chinese Food
Over the years Chandu Da would drop in whenever he was travelling to India . He loved my Bengali Food like doi maachh , luchchi and begun bhaja
It was always fun whenever he was around with his infectious vibrant energy . He had loads of stories to tell and he would interact with the kids always smiling and soft spoken.
In Between he got busy with his work and raising his lovely daughters , me and my husband too were tied up with many things but my husband was in contact till he passed away in 2008. And after his demise we moved to Mumbai .

Suddenly after a gap of many years Chandu Da came searching for his friend , he wasn’t aware of him passing .He traced my contact via my nephew in Delhi and soon called saying “Bhai , I missed you guys in the Delhi house “ . He used to call me bhai with fondness. He always had so much warmth and affection for me and my children

Over the years , he was the first one to msg on any occasion , be it New Years or Independence Day or Durga Pujo . He was like an elder brother for me .

It is difficult to accept his absence. I have met many different personalities, the common observation is that - whoever speaks more, speaks rubbish. Chatt, my Chandu Dadu as I call him, probably a very rare exception who talks a lot but never utters a single useless word. His every word is full of knowledge & wisdom. I eagerly wait for his Kolkata visit just to enrich myself & enjoy the luxury of talking to him. I hate to use the past tense.

Dear Mira, Jill and Yazer Family,

We were very sad to hear about your loss. Chatt was always so warm and welcoming, greeting us with a huge smile and enthusiastic hug whenever we saw him. We send our sincerest sympathy to you all.

Love,
Marcus and Ruthie Burnstein

It is hard to believe Professor Chatt is no more. I came to his contact probably in 1999 in Mumbai in DAE Nuclear Chemistry Conference. Afterwards it was a long history. In 2004 I invited him in a national level discussion meeting in Kolkata- Application of RadiotraCers in Chemical, Environmental and Biological Science (ARCEBS). He strongly suggested that it would be an international conference. Following his suggestion first International ARCEBS was organizer in 2006, and then every 4 year. He attended all ARCEBS, gave strong and valuable suggestions. Unfortunately he could not Attend ARCEBS 2023 - due to COVID. However, it was detected as false positive and he gave the keynote address remotely. ARCEBS will be never as before without Chatt. My last meeting with him in RANC 2023 in Budapest.
Not only me, but all my research scholars are deeply sadden with the sudden demise of Professor Chatt. He was a big inspiration to the young research scholars of my group.
Even about two months before when we are thinking of ARCEBS 2026, I asked suggestion of Chatt. As usual after I received about 2 pages meticulous suggestion.
We will remember him for ever.

“Hi Minu!”, time stood still as these words echoed through my head. It was as if he was standing in front of me with his usual beaming smile and extended hands.
I snap back into reality.
The news was like a bolt from the blue. I could not accept it as the truth, just like that, he was gone, leaving me questioning my reality.
Perhaps, I am the only one who saw him grow up, blossom and be the lively man he was.
Memories of our childhood pranks, his academic achievements, his duty-bound life, flooded my mind, a bittersweet reminder of what's lost.
Though you're gone, your presence will forever remain in the nook and corners of my heart.

He received Hevesy Medal award from Journal of Radioanalytical Cemistry in 2001 Nov.

Jill & Mira,

My deepest condolences to you both. I always remember your dad fondly from visits to camp, he was always happy. May his memory be a blessing to you both.
