He was born the third son of Genanne Beck and Michael McManus Simms on May 12, 1976, and was raised in Halifax and St. Albert, Alberta. He had recently returned to live in Halifax.
Known to family, friends and, especially his nieces and nephews, as “Shrek”, he was a big, gentle, giant of a man who loved and supported not only family and friends, but everyone who crossed the path of this big hearted man. He exuded constant care, love, respect and humility in sharing his world with others. Those who walked through life with Andrew could always count on him for unconditional and unwavering help and support. Invariably, his parting words were “much love”.
Andrew loved the outdoors and spent many hours on, in and around the rivers of Alberta, and, since his return to Nova Scotia, hiking near, and swimming in, the ocean. His love of life and irrepressible sense of fun endeared him to his twelve nieces and nephews whom he adored and who adored him.
Andrew is survived by his parents and his three brothers, Michael (Lee), Jonathan (Anna) and David (Tera), as well as his twelve nieces and nephews, and a large extended family. Andrew is predeceased by his grandparents, Raymond and Molly Beck, and G. Graham and Nora Simms, as well as his sister-in-law, Krista Simms.
