It is with great sadness that we share the news that Bena lost her battle with cancer this past Sunday, August 9th.
Bena was born on May 8, 1966 in Pictou County and celebrated her 60th birthday this past May. Bena leaves behind her partner of 32 years, Mark and their beloved dog Matilda.
Bena was part of Mark’s family, which includes her mother-in-law Shirley, father-in-law Bob and sisters-in-law Michele And Melissa (Michel) as well as nieces Emma and Kara and nephew Luc.
In recent years, Bena rekindled a wonderful and supportive relationship with her cousin Brenda Rischea and husband Mark of Burlington Ontario. Bena found great comfort in this, and Brenda was always just a phone call away, offering her help and prayers for Bena.
During the past two years, she was thankful to have a caring and supportive relationship with her close friend Quinn. They shared a deep love of dogs and were often seen walking them in the neighborhood.
In her earlier years, Bena had a successful career in the fashion industry as a manufacturer’s representative and in retail sales. She had a keen eye for quality fashions and enjoyed her collection of fine handbags and shoes.
Her most loved job by far was running a doggy daycare business. She had a great love and expertise in the care of animals. Over the years she and Mark had several beloved dogs, cats, and even bearded dragons. Bena also had a green thumb and had an impressive collection of orchids and dahlias that brightened her day.
Bena and Mark have been very fortunate to live in a great community for over 20 years. Mark wants to send his appreciation for the caring and kindness that his neighbors have given him since Benas’s passing.
Bena was a fun, feisty, and fashionable lady who was loyal and loving, and she will be greatly missed and remembered always.
There will be a celebration of Bena's life at a later date. Donations can be made in memory of Bena to the SPCA.
