Sampson, Mary Cecilia- 74 of the Halifax area though gifted with Cape Breton roots was in the presence of her family as she began her journey to eternal life, to be at home with the Lord and her sisters Blanche David formerly of Arichat, NS and Elizabeth MacDonald formerly of St. Peter’s, NS.
Left to mourn is her husband of 54 years, Clarence; her daughters Sheila and Valerie Sampson both of Halifax. Her brothers, Nicholas, George (Elsie) and Cornelius (Anita) who are all of Rockdale. Grandchildren; Russell, Justin, Krista and Samantha, her great grandchildren Brooklyn and Ayden, as well as several nieces and nephews who certainly loved and held their Aunt on a high pedestal. She will also be missed tremendously by her very special friend, Audrey, whom she loved dearly.
After moving to Halifax she worked at the Victoria General Hospital for many years. Anyone who knew her also knows how much she dreaded to cross the Canso Causeway. If she planted her feet on the Island it was definitely for a good reason and you’d better count your lucky stars that she was there. Despite that, never once did her deep sense of Cape Breton Hospitality waiver. She always had a meal and a cozy bed for anyone in need, especially those starting a new life in the City. She could make anyone feel at home from the moment she opened her door. She was resilient and gracious. She was also tough as nails and had a fierce stubborn streak that proved to be her greatest strength right up to the end.
Cremation has taken place and a funeral mass will be held for Cecelia at St. Catherine’s of Siena Church on Bayer’s Rd. on Tuesday December 8th at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
