The family of Christopher (Kit) Rigg are saddened to announce his sudden death at the age of
78. Kit was born in Rochester, New York to Richard and Sarah (Lanctot) Rigg and grew up in
New York and Tennessee. He emigrated to Canada in 1970. After his graduation from UBC Law
School, Kit began his legal career, first as a Labour Lawyer in Vancouver and then as a Law
Professor at the University of Calgary. In 1990, Kit was recruited to initiate the first Nova Scotia
Bar Admission program. Interested in computers and technology from early on, Kit
decided to follow this passion and changed careers, earning a Master of Education in
Technology and working as both an IT manager and teacher. Above all, he enjoyed mentoring
others along the way.
In 1981, he married Patricia Simpson and they began their wonderful forty-one years of married
life. Kit supported Patricia in her own educational goals, and he was a hands-on father to their
three children. Kit was the Dad in the PTA meetings, the Dad on the Board of his children’s
school, the Dad on the soccer field, and the Dad who spent entire weekends at swim meets.
And he loved every minute of it. More recently, he took great delight in spending time with his
two young grandchildren in Ottawa.
Kit is survived by his wife Patricia and his three children, Thaniel Lanctot Rigg (Wilam Quesnel),
Gabriel Simpson Rigg, and Christian Richard Bell Rigg (Olivier Siccardi). Granddad will be
sorely missed by Nève Colombe Quesnel-Rigg and Loic Lanctot Quesnel-Rigg.
A celebration of Kit’s life will take place at Cruickshank’s Halifax Funeral Home on Wednesday,
27 September, 2:00pm - 3:00pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the
QEll Cardiology Unit or to a charity of your choice.
