It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Craig Berryman, following a hard-fought battle with cancer. Craig was a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend, who died with grace and humor on October 2, 2023. He leaves behind his wife Diane Manara, their children Liana, Luke, and Lily, and siblings Cathy Gannon (Jim), Cindy Moss (Duncan), Chris (Lois), Clark, and Corinne Webber (Bruce, deceased). He was predeceased by his parents (Roy and Carmel Berryman) and brothers, Cole and Chuck (Linda).
Born in 1957, Craig attended Dalhousie University, graduating first with an honours degree in psychology, followed by a law degree in 1986. He served clients in Halifax and Sheet Harbour during his 35 years of practice. He was passionate about property law, and taught the real-estate licensing course for 20 years.
Craig’s life revolved around the things that were most important to him: family, church, and community. He met Diane in 1980, and they built a strong family, centered on their three children. He showed his love in small, but meaningful ways, and gave the best hugs.
Craig was a man of deep faith, and church was important to him. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Diocesan Finance Committee, St. Joseph and Saint Mother Teresa parish councils, and led the amalgamation of the North End Halifax Parishes. He gave to his community in many ways, and was a long-time supporter of the Lawyers’ Assistance Program.
Craig passed his love of soccer on to his children, and much of his free time was spent cheering them on from the side of a pitch. He could be found most weekends watching the premier league on tv with his brother, Clark. He coached soccer for 10 years, often with the help of his children. He was a mentor to his players, on and off the field.
We would like to thank the Palliative Care Team, especially Monica Flynn, for their kindness and support.
Visitation will take place at Cruikshank’s Funeral Home on October 12 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. Funeral will follow at 11am on October 13 at St. Stephen’s Church (formerly St. Mother Teresa of Kolkata).
In lieu of flowers, you may send a donation to Halifax City Soccer Club in Craig’s memory to help make soccer more accessible to all children.
