I knew Dave from Tunis Court in St. John's. NICE guy, we always had time for Dave and liked being around with him. Even though it has been 50 years, he still leaps to mind as a joyful soul. The world will miss you Dave.

I am sorry to hear of Dave's passing. Had not seen Dave for a number of years but remember fun times we had in high school and at Dal. My sincere condolences to his family. Sorry I was away and not able to attend the services.

I was a neighbour of Dave's for 15 years.  He was the neighbourhood "Man in Motion" as he cruised the neighbourhood in his chair.  He would always ask how I was. When I asked how he was doing, he would always reply "fantastic"!  As he would wheel away, I was always inspired by his amazing attitude. He was one of the most positive people I knew, despite the insurmountable difficulties in his life.  Dave was one of the kindest people I ever knew.  I thank neighbours who helped Dave, such as Alex Astbury and "Saint Dave", a neighbour who shovelled walkways and did many other chores for David.  David was a gem.  Rest in peace, good man.

To Philip, Nancy , Emily and the rest of David's family.  We were saddened to hear of David's passing. I could sit for hours enraptured by his captivating stories
- and did many times. One always came away from an encounter with 'Newf' feeling enriched. The courage and dignity with which he faced the challenges of his illness was inspiring.   His loss diminishes those of us who remain.

I am so sorry for your loss--Dave was a wonderful man, and, even though I didn't see him often, visiting him was always a highlight of trips back to NS. I'm thinking of you!

We are just so sad to hear that Dave is gone.  His sense of fun and humour made our Dalhousie days.  His friendship, and thoughtful calls over the years since, meant a lot.  His were very hard shoes to walk in but he did it, and we are very grateful for the good times he brought with him.

Ruth,Peter and Jackie, I was saddened to read of David's passing. For the short time that I had contact with him during late 1970 and early 1971, I found him to be a friendly, cheerful and outgoing person who I thoroughly enjoyed talking to. My thoughts are with you all today as well as David's son and daughters.

I am so saddened to hear of your father's death. I know given David's illness, his and your lives were fraught with challenges. I also know that despite everything you all met those challenges head on with optimism. My good friend Brent Mason and I always enjoyed our many conversations and exchange of good humour with Dave and your family. You all were very kindred spirits. I know part of Dave's will to live was his children whom he was always so proud. May that help carry you through this time of loss and grieving. So sorry to hear of Dave's passing. He always made a point of dropping in whenever he passed through Amherst and so enjoyed hearing updates on the family. He will be missed.

My heart is broken.  I cannot tell you how sad I feel or how much I'll miss him.
Dave has been a part of my life since the early 70's.  Although we were on opposite ends of the country, he never failed to call me at least once a week.  He was my kindred spirit and I will truly miss him. From one newf to another "he was the best man to ever walk in shoe leather."

I have many fond memories of time spent with David over the years since we first met at Dal. in the sixties. One of the best was a visit one summer when Parsons and Barb invited me to join them at their little place near the beach for a few days during my Nova Scotia vacation. In fact, the last time we spoke to each other by telephone, David asked  me if I remembered cooking the large cuohog I had caught one morning! I am deeply distressed to learn of his passing but am glad for his  friendship over the years.  Good-bye old friend.

There is a special place in heaven for Dave.

An old friend from our Dalhousie days says a sad goodbye to "Newf" - one of the very best of people. He carried his infirmity with dignity and he leaves a hole in our lives, and memories of great times with the madcap gang.
